ACS Young IT WA & ACS Women Present: International Girls in ICT Day 2016 - Lead Like a Girl

The Girls in ICT initiative of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) is a global effort to raise awareness on empowering and encouraging girls and young women to consider studies and careers in Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs). The initiative is committed to celebrate and commemorate the International Girls in ICT Day on the fourth Thursday of every April as established by the ITU membership.

International Girls in ICT Day is an initiative backed by all ITU Member States in ITU . It aims to create a global environment that empowers and encourages girls and young women to consider careers in the growing field of information and communication technologies (ICTs).

International Girls in ICT Day is celebrated on the 4th Thursday in April every year.

Since 2011, International Girls in ICT Day has been celebrated in 150 countries around the world (across Americas and Caribbean, Asia and the Pacific, Arab States, Africa and CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) with more than 5,300 events and participation of over 177,000 girls and young women.

This year, we are excited to celebrate our first International Girls In ICT Day in WA with the theme of “Lead Like A Girl” and our values – Be yourself, Share your story and paint your vision.

         

We would like to encourage women who are at workplace or entering the workplace to:
* Be open & honest about their emotions, values & fears to engage with others (Be yourself)
* Connect authentically with others (Share your story)
* Focus on a big picture & paint their future goals and have a positive impact on people’s life (paint your vision)

Our Speakers will be:

AndyDr. Jenine Beekhuyzen- Recently named by the Sydney Morning Herald as a female rising star in ICT and is the winner of the 2014 Australian Information Industries Association (AIIA) iAward for Queensland ICT Woman of the Year. Jenine is the Director of the Tech Girls Movement, a nonprofit organization inspiring girls into technology careers through tech superheroes.

AndyDr. Kate Raynes-Goldie - Currently the Director of the Games & Interactive Program at FTI and adjunct Research Fellow. Dr. Kate was named as one of MCV's most influential women in games in Australia and New Zealand for 2015. She is a game designer, professional educator, technologist, activist and champion for the games industry in Western Australia. She is a domain expert in the two most important cultural and economic forces of the past 20 years: games and the internet.

AndyMichelle Sandford - Michelle is an inspirational and motivational speaker advocating for gender balance and encouraging more women and Young People into the Technology Industry. I am focused on amplifying a new breed of people. People who want to change the world by bringing their best and lifting up those around them.  She helps people identify their passion.

AndyKaren Roberts - Karen has worked in the WA Public Sector for nearly 30 years, including some time in regional WA working and volunteering with community based organisations providing crisis accommodation for women and children and employment services for people with disabilities.
