High frequency trading permits many, many stock exchange movements in great volume and can be the difference between making millions of dollars or losing it, within the blink of an eye. Markets compete on the speed at which they disseminate information, and then actions must be made on that information in the shortest possible time. 

Aaron Oxford’s work revolves around making these trading systems operate at sub-millisecond timeframes, and in exploring the use of artificial intelligence to make predictions and buy/sell assessments faster than a human operator.
