ACS Young IT Social Event – 2016 Final

Tuesday, 08 Nov 2016

The final ACS Young IT Social event for 2016 will be held on Thursday, 1st December at Reload Bar & Games, and the Young IT Committee would like to invite all ACS members (young and old) to register and attend.

Our speaker this month is The Hon Dan Tehan MP. Mr Tehan is the Member for Wannon in Victoria. He became the Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, Minister for Defence Personnel, Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for Cyber Security and Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for the Centenary of Anzac on 27 July, 2016. He previously served as Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, Minister for Defence Materiel and Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for the Centenary of Anzac from 18 February, 2016.

As the Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for Cyber Security, Mr Tehan is responsible for implementing the Government’s $230 million Cyber Security Strategy launched in April 2016.  The four-year Strategy outlines the Government’s program for meeting the dual challenges of the digital age – advancing and protecting Australia’s interests online.  Partnerships with business, academic and the community are at the core of the Strategy, which includes 33 initiatives across five key themes of:  national partnership, strong cyber defences, global responsibility and influence, growth and innovation, and a cyber smart nation.

So come along to have some drinks, eat some food, play some games, and meet like-minded tech professionals, students and local entrepreneurs and help establish and grow your network in Canberra’s very own Geek Haven – Reload Bar & Games.

Open to all members and non-members of the ACS.  Members get free entry, non-members will pay a small fee ($10) to help contribute towards event costs.

Please note: That while the event does serve alcohol, the ACS and the Young IT Committee do encourage responsible drinking.  So, if you are drinking, please don’t drive.

Date: Thursday 1st December 2016

Time: 5:30pm for 6:00pm start and finishes at 7:30pm

Venue: Reload Bar & games, 38 Northbourne Avenue, Canberra, ACT 2601
