ACS participates in Australia 2020 Day of Stem launch event

Tuesday, 30 Aug 2016

On Thursday 25th August 2016, ACS representatives joined Life Journey and the Day of STEM Team as a National Partner for Australia 2020 “A Day of STEM” initiative. This was the second national launch event and was held at Westpac’s Barangaroo offices in Sydney.

Joining other National Partners such as Tesla, Westpac, AMP, RACQ, Telstra, Deloitte, ACS Foundation and Australia Post, approximately 50 other senior ICT executives from across industry were also in attendance to preview the initiative and to hear from industry leaders, school students and school teachers.

Australia 2020, within the interactive online Day of STEM platform, brings Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics “to life” for students and teachers. The event provided the opportunity to test drive and experience a day in the life of leading STEM professionals by exploring six unique careers with some of Australia’s largest businesses such as Westpac, Australia Post and AMP. The program and event was designed to give students insight into the different jobs now appearing and the skills needed to succeed in 2020 and beyond.

The shared goal of THE National Partners and everyone involved in the program is to make the Day of STEM platform accessible to all Australian students - regardless of means - and give them access to a STEM mentor who will inspire them throughout their studies. By doing so, the initiative aims to encourage students Australia-wide across high school and tertiary education to aspire to STEM careers and to understand the skills and education pathways needed to prepare for the range of STEM and cyber careers that exist today and will increasingly so in the future, whilst at the same time raising the national STEM IQ.
