ACS President, Dr Nick Tate, FACS, has welcomed yesterday’s announcement by Federal Attorney General, Mark Dreyfus, banning TikTok on government supplied devices.
“It is heartening to see the government acting promptly on the advice of cybersecurity experts and our intelligence agencies,” Dr Tate said. “The security implications of TikTok on government and personal devices has been a concern for some time so it is important to be taking proactive steps.”
“As we have seen over the past year, cybersecurity is a critical and rapidly evolving field and at ACS we are working with government agencies and ministers to ensure Australian data is kept as secure as possible.
“We are very pleased to see the Federal government is recognising the importance of the technology sector to the Australian economy and taking appropriate measures to ensure its integrity and safety.”
