Media release Australian tech leaders to gather in Bundaberg next week

Digital opportunities for Wide Bay region explored at ACS event

2 November 2022

The technology opportunities for the Wide Bay region will be in the spotlight when a cast of Australian tech and innovation leaders will share their IT career journey, triumphs, and challenges along with insights into the cutting edge of emerging technologies and the opportunities in Bundaberg next week.

Featuring some of Queensland and Australia’s top technology leaders, the free event to be held at the Bundaberg Multiplex on the 9th of November is being held by ACS, the professional association for Australia’s technology sector, and the Bundaberg Regional Council.

The workshop is part of a line-up of events focused on innovation and entrepreneurship, facilitated by Bundaberg Regional Council.

The Tech Leaders Fireside chat will coincide with the Hinkler Innovation Series, a community-led collaboration to drive innovation in the Bundaberg Region.

The initiative draws on the pioneering spirit of Bundaberg-born innovator and adventurer Bert Hinkler while bringing well-known thought-leaders from across Australia and the globe to the region to drive discussion on regional innovation.

On the evening’s roundtable will be Queensland’s Chief Entrepreneur, Wayne Gerard; Rowena Barrett, QUT Pro Vice-Chancellor; and Ian Oppermann, originally from Maryborough who now serves as the New South Wales Chief Data Scientist.

ACS Queensland Chair, Beau Tydd, who will be hosting the evening’s proceeded pointed out the opportunities for the Bundaberg and Wide Bay regions are immense as digital technologies are changing local industries: “our annual Digital Pulse report this year found over 2,500 Queenslanders are working in tech jobs services the mining and agricultural sectors, something shown by the range of business in Bundaberg.”

“In March, we hosted a sold-out Digital Transformation Regional Roadshow with NBN Co here in Bundaberg which showed the local interest in the sector. Next week’s event will highlight the opportunities for students, workers and businesses in what’s one of Australia’s fastest growing sectors.”
