RiverPitch reboots for successful 2021 event

Brisbane’s premier pitch session sees investors and startups gather.

29 November, 2021

RiverPitch 2021 took place last Thursday, November 25 with ten startup founders putting aside their Zoom pitches to present their innovative technology startups to over 150 attendees and investors at the event hosted by Brisbane’s River City Labs.

Having been postponed due to Covid restrictions last year, this year’s flagship event showcased the best of Queensland’s startup community to 70 of Australia’s leading investors who attended in person and online.

“RiverPitch aims to connect the Tech innovation ecosystem and support stellar start-ups and investors to connect – in person and online,’ said River City Lab’s General Manager, Pauline Fetaui. “We are thrilled to be back.”

One of the successes for the night was Maxwell Plus, which saw entrepreneur and River City Labs founder, Steve Baxter of Ten13 committing $500k to the early prostate cancer detection service.

“I regard nights like RiverPitch as opportunities to network with investors – the start-ups should be optimising for a meeting with an investor,” said Baxter. “It is performative but it's also a foot in the door.”

Alisha Geary, whose digital assistant Doris helps artists secure their intellectual property and monetise their practice, came to RiverPitch by way of the Mindaroo Foundation GenOne Program.

“River City Labs dove deep into my business, helped me work out how much capital I need, what valuation could be and how to make forward projections.” Alisha said. “Pauline was a huge help, and no program has done that for me before – it’s quite deep.”

The event, held at Lightspace in Fortitude Valley, was sponsored by BDO, ShareSource, AWS and Cake. River City Labs would also like to thank head coach Peter Laurie from Junta, Waveney for the beautiful Acknowledgement of Country and the amazing RCL team for making it a success!
