ACS certified under Professional Standards Scheme

Sydney, Tuesday 26 February: ACS, the professional association for Australia’s ICT sector, today announced the certification of the ACS Professional Standards Scheme by the Professional Standards Council. In 2019, all ACS Certified Professionals will come under this Scheme, giving them professional recognition from federal, state and territory governments.

The scheme will be monitored by the ACS Profession Advisory Board and governed by the ACS Management Committee which will ensure that high standards of professionalism are maintained by ACS Certified Professionals.

The ACS Professional Standards Scheme covers ICT professional services performed for clients and customers by practitioners on an independent basis, or on behalf of an employer.

ACS Certified Professionals (CPs) who meet the criteria and hold the requisite insurances are entitled to liability protection. For applicable ACS members, liability can be limited to AUD$2.0 million.

ACS President Yohan Ramasundara welcomed the recognition of CPs under the Professional Standards Scheme at an event held in Sydney.

“This certification will enhance the public profile of our Certified Professionals and will build community trust,” said Mr Ramasundara. “Certified Professionals have long been required to demonstrate an exceptional level of professional conduct and the new scheme will ensure that this achievement becomes nationally recognised.”

“I want to thank the Professional Standards Council for working with us to help achieve this outcome and I know that our Certified Professional members will be excited about the prospect of coming under this scheme.”

“With the growth in the need for qualified, trusted professionals in the technology space we are proud to be leading the way and I am confident our Certified Professional members will show the market why engaging a recognised professional is more important today than ever before.”

John Vines, chair of the Professional Standards Association, said he was delighted to have ACS join the scheme.

“The Councils’ approval of the new scheme recognises ACS’s commitment to the improvement of professional standards,” said Mr Vines. “ACS first had a scheme approved in 2010, and with each scheme since then the ACS has enhanced its self-regulatory capacity and its risk management systems. With this new scheme, the ACS will be extending coverage to an estimated 1,300 Certified Professional members, greatly expanding the protection available to its members and their clients.”
