ACS, the peak body for Australia’s technology professionals, has today launched a new Artificial Intelligence Hub from its Docklands, Melbourne premises.
Yohan Ramasundara, President of ACS said “AI is not yet, and unlikely to be for some time, a push button technology. Our intent in creating this Artificial Intelligence Hub is to focus on building capacity and capability of Australians in the AI space. We will achieve this by positioning the AI Hub as a centre of activity, creating programs that bring University students, industry, startups, corporates and government together to systematise serendipity”.
Andrew Johnson CEO of ACS shared “Automation and digitization is accelerating, and we need to ensure Australia positions itself to embrace this change in order that our citizens may attract higher paying jobs in Industry 4.0”
The AI Hub will include 50 seats dedicated to artificial intelligence businesses operating onsite from Bay City Labs working with ACS to scale. The space includes an eight panel multi-media wall to enable onsite tech scaleups to host stand-ups demonstrating their AI products and machine learning capabilities to customers, investors and other stakeholders.
Johnson also announced that recent ACS Gold Disruptor winner in the ICT Professional category Steve Nouri has joined ACS as Head of AI Community Development.
“My role will involve delivering national programs to develop AI talent such as technical workshops and masterclasses, facilitating visiting AI experts, and building the AI Community in Australia through online products and hosting and supporting regular AI meet-up groups.” Nouri said.
Prior to joining ACS, Steve was leading teams of researchers and data scientists across multiple projects at CSIRO’s Data 61. He has more than 15 years of experience in different roles in ICT industry, and also lectures data science at UTS.
