ACS Vic x IAPA Technical Lunch: Data Driven Decision-Making
Unlock the power of data to make sharper, faster, more confident decisions
About this event
Data is reshaping how organisations think, operate, and make decisions - shifting from instinct-led choices to insights grounded in evidence. While the potential for smarter, faster decision making is significant, many organisations are still navigating challenges around data quality, governance, and turning insights into meaningful action.
This premium lunch event brings together IT & Data professionals, technology leaders, practitioners, and tech-adjacent individuals to explore what it really takes to embed data-driven decision making into everyday practice. Moving beyond theory, the session will focus on how organisations are leveraging data to inform strategy and operations - and where gaps in capability, culture, and governance can limit impact.
Through expert perspectives and open discussion, we will examine how to translate data into better decisions at every level. Topics will include building trust in data, improving data literacy across teams, managing risk and bias, navigating evolving regulatory expectations, and establishing strong governance frameworks that support confident decision making.
Tailored for a technical audience, this session will offer practical, real-world insights for those looking to strengthen their organisation’s data maturity- whether you are developing foundational capabilities, scaling analytics, or refining your approach to governance and strategy.
Join us for an engaging afternoon of insight and connection over a premium networking lunch, as we explore how organisations can unlock the full value of their data to drive better decisions and lasting impact.

Speakers
At the age of 10 Antony proclaimed to anyone who would listen that his chosen career was to become a mathematician. To that end, Antony went on to attain his Masters in Science, focussing on the statistical sciences and during that journey exhausted the entire catalogue of Pure, Applied and Statistical math that LaTrobe University had to offer.
Antony’s first grown-up career was as a Lecturer at both the Dept of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Monash Medical School and the Dept of Public Health at the University of Melbourne. An academic life of 10 years.
Antony then took on commercial roles in the corporate domain where he at NAB, built the first analytics capability in Australia detecting and preventing fraud in the Financial Services space…and then led the Customer Analytics function.
- Was the first employee at Seek with the remit to take advantage of the enormous volume of ads, candidate profiles and online activity of both candidates and hirers with the aim to better connect people to fulfilling careers
- Became the CDO at Bupa and built the foundations of their modern Data Science capability
- Became the CDO at Go1 and delivered their data platform and data strategy
- And is now the Chief Data Scientist at HCF
The aggregate of his achievements during that time has been
- Identifying well in excess of $100B AUD of revenue opportunities previously hidden to those organisations
- Putting more that 1m Australians in roles they would never have been aware of
- Holding back the threat of global giants Monster, Indeed and Google to maintain Seek’s leading position in the markets it serves
Antony is also active outside of his regular “day jobs”. Seeking to give his analytical tribe a bigger voice at the table Antony has served time on the Boards of the Statistical Society of Australia and ADMA, and currently sits on the Advisory Board of the Centre for Business Analytics at Melbourne Business School and is the Chair of the Institute of Analytics Professionals of Australia Advisory Committee.
Antony is also an advisor to 4 exciting Australian start ups….and is the co-author of 70 peer reviewed academic papers.
