Our How to… event series is a behind-the-scenes introduction to many of Australia’s leading companies, both big tech businesses and businesses big on tech. In the past, we’ve partnered with Atlassian, Microsoft and LinkedIn and now Canstar.<br><br>Led by ACS Queensland branch manager Holly Bretherton, our How to… event in partnership with Canstar will present a guest panel of experts – Canstar tech professionals with plenty of experience and lots to share. <br><br>Specifically, you’ll have the chance to hear from <strong>Kiran Manwani</strong>, Group Manager for Technical Development, <strong>Lucas Dugdale</strong>, DevOps engineer and <strong>Pam Fairbairn</strong>, a senior developer. Prior to that, she has worked for the Forestry Commission in Scotland and the New Zealand Qualifications Authority in Analyst Programmer roles. She graduated from Heriot Watt University with a Bachelor (Hons) Degree in Computing for Industry.

After starting her career in Australia at Griffith University and QUT, Kiran joined Canstar as a Developer in 2006, quickly moving up the ranks. Progressing initially to Development Manager and now as the Group Manager for Technical Development, her love for technology has grown as tech has evolved. Passionate about developing people, she loves to work with and manage Developers and DevOps Engineers, helping many of her team progress from Graduate roles into DevOps and Architect roles.

Holly Bretherton

Holly Bretherton is State Manager of ACS Queensland having commenced in the role in April 2019. Holly has close to 20 years’ experience in executive management positions within the not-for-profit sector and specifically membership organisations, and prior to her role at ACS she was General Manager – Member Relations and Communications at the Australian Medical Association (Qld) for 7 years. Holly leads the Queensland Branch, with a focus on membership recruitment and retention, member outreach and development of professional development programs, partnerships and sponsorship, to support strong member engagement and to ensure the financial sustainability of the Queensland Branch into the future. Holly is passionate about connecting Emerging Professionals with the tools, resources and networks (available through ACS membership) to support their emerging tech careers.

  • ACS reserves the right to change the program at any time. Every effort will be made to ensure a program of equivalent standard and members are updated with changes.
  • All dietary requirements are considered, however we cannot guarantee a 100% allergen free environment.
  • ACS reserves the right to prohibit entry or eject any person from an ACS event based on behaviour deemed inappropriate by ACS staff, its agents and/or others working under its authority.
  • Filming or streaming by attendees is not permitted. If an attendee is found to be doing so they will be asked to leave the event immediately and further action may be taken.
  • Photography and/or filming may take place during this event, by accepting these terms you consent to this. Please let a member of ACS know if you do not want your picture taken.

COVID-19 Event Attendance Compliance

By registering to attend an ACS in person event you are agreeing to the below terms and conditions

  • If an attendee is displaying flu or cold like symptoms in the days leading up to the event and therefore is not able to attend, ACS will refund the registration fee.
  • If an attendee comes to an event and is displaying flu or cold like symptoms they will be asked to leave
  • We ask all ACS members to respect the social distancing guidelines, if an attendee repeatedly disregards these guidelines, they may be asked to leave
  • ACS reserves the right to cancel the event within 24 hours' notice if either the speaker or the event host has advised us that they are exhibiting flu or cold like symptoms
  • All attendees must provide a valid phone number and email address to be contacted on if there is reason to notify about a possible COVID-19 exposure

Personal information collection notice

By registering for this event, you are providing personal information to the Australian Computer Society. In accordance with the ACS Privacy Policy, ACS collects personal information through registrations and attendances at its events for the purposes of:
