ACS welcomes reinstatement of Science Ministry

MEDIA RELEASE - ACS welcomes reinstatement of Science Ministry

SYDNEY, December 22: President of the Australian Computer Society (ACS) Brenda Aynsley OAM has today welcomed the announcement of the Science portfolio being reintegrated and placed with the Industry Minister .

"We are incredibly pleased to see focus being placed on Science particularly given the critical need for STEM education identified by the ACARA Curriculum Review. While the Government has demonstrated its commitment to technology and innovation, having a defined Science Ministry elevates those matters which will be critical to the ongoing development of Australia's innovation future.'

'Minister MacFarlane's previous experience across varying different portfolios will allow him to take an holistic view of the relationship between science and innovation which will positively influence industry and the economy. This kind of open thinking is an absolutely necessary part of ensuring science and technology are developed to work for the benefit of this nation.'

"We look forward to working with the Minister and Department next year to assist them in developing scientific policy that will work well for Australia in the future.'

Ms Aynsley said.
