The Sustainability Committee within the Australian Computer Society (ACS) serves as a leading voice in advancing sustainable technology practices and promoting the role of digital innovation in creating a more resilient, equitable, and environmentally responsible future. Comprised of distinguished professionals, researchers, industry leaders, and policy experts, the committee is dedicated to exploring how technology can drive positive environmental, social, and economic outcomes across Australia and beyond.

In an era where sustainability has become a critical global priority, the intersection of technology and sustainable development presents both significant opportunities and complex challenges. The ACS Sustainability Committee provides thought leadership, strategic guidance, and collaborative engagement to help organisations and communities harness technology responsibly while minimising environmental impact and supporting long-term societal wellbeing.

The committee’s mission is to promote sustainable digital transformation through the development of best practices, frameworks, and initiatives that encourage ethical innovation, responsible resource management, and climate-conscious technology adoption. Key focus areas include green IT, sustainable infrastructure, circular economy principles, energy-efficient technologies, digital inclusion, and the role of emerging technologies in addressing environmental and societal challenges.

Through collaboration with stakeholders across government, academia, industry, and the broader community, the Sustainability Committee supports research, policy development, education, and advocacy initiatives that advance sustainability outcomes within the technology sector. By fostering innovation and responsible leadership, the committee aims to strengthen Australia’s capacity to build a sustainable and digitally enabled future.

Arun leads Data, Analytics & AI across APAC, helping organisations unlock business value through modern data platforms, advanced analytics, and responsible AI. He specialises in turning complex data into actionable insights that drive growth, improve decision-making and support ESG and sustainability goals. With strong technical depth and hands-on leadership, he delivers large-scale data, ESG Transformation engagements and AI programs with measurable outcomes. A purpose-driven and strategic leader, Arun is passionate about ethical, human-centred AI and using data to shape a smarter, more sustainable digital future.

Mary Nottle

Vice Chair

Mary Nottle, MACS CP is a senior technology leader with over 25 years’ experience in financial services, currently serving as Head of Information Technology at Bank Australia. She works closely with executives and Steering Committees to shape technology priorities, strengthen governance, and ensure the long‑term sustainability of enterprise technology in highly regulated environments.

Mary brings a sustainability‑led perspective to technology decision‑making, grounded in the principle that technology must be sustainable across investment, workforce capability, and environmental responsibility. Her focus is on strengthening the hygiene layer of technology, including core platforms, service management, controls, and lifecycle discipline, so that solutions delivered on top are scalable, resilient, and capable of delivering enduring value rather than short‑term benefit.

With deep experience operating at the intersection of technology, risk management, and responsible investment, Mary understands how foundational technology decisions influence organisational resilience, ethical practice, and public trust. Mary is passionate about advancing sustainable and ethical technology practices across Australia’s technology profession and is committed to contributing practical industry insight, governance experience, and delivery‑focused thought leadership to the ACS IT Sustainability Committee.

ABM Nayeem

Member

ABM Nayeem is an Information Systems (IS) professional with over a decade of experience delivering large-scale digital transformation projects across the telecommunications, retail, and manufacturing sectors. He is currently a Graduate Researcher and PhD candidate at the University of Melbourne, specialising in Enterprise Architecture (EA) and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) performance to support organisational sustainability and resilience. Nayeem brings a strong industry–academia perspective, combining hands-on leadership in EA, ERP, analytics, and platform transformation with rigorous research in digital sustainability. He has led complex, multi-stakeholder programmes in agile and hybrid environments and is passionate about aligning technology strategy with business value, governance, and responsible innovation. A certified PMP®, PRINCE2®, ITIL® and CSM®, Nayeem actively contributes to professional communities and knowledge exchange, with a particular interest in how IS can enable sustainable, ethical, and future-ready organisations. He is the present Chair of ACS Victoria ESG Special Interest Group (SIG).

Cindy Chung

Member

Cindy Chung is a seasoned IT professional with expertise in service management, systems architecture, and data management. She is the 2024 Chair of the ACS NSW Branch Executive Committee, having previously served as Vice Chair in 2023 and Director of the ACS Membership Advisory Board (2021–2022). Cindy has also contributed as Treasurer and member of the ACS NSW BEC, and as part of the ACS NSW Women’s Committee, championing diversity and excellence in the ICT sector.

Divya is a digital business and enterprise strategist with over 15 years’ experience advising public sector and enterprise clients on technology‑enabled transformation across Australia and the Middle East. With a background spanning program leadership and C‑suite advisory roles, she brings deep industry expertise in ICT strategy, program and portfolio delivery across NSW Government and Energy and Resources sectors. She is passionate about contributing an independent, industry‑informed perspective to ACS Technical Advisory Boards, ensuring recommendations remain grounded in real‑world delivery, ethical practice and local market context.

Payal Tiwari

Member

Payal Tiwari is a Strategic technology executive and transformation leader with 20 years of global experience across consulting, customer success, and enterprise technology delivery. Leadership roles including Director at Deloitte and Wipro, with experience across EY, Pega, Citrix, and Client Technology Partner at MUFG, leading large-scale transformation, governance, and stakeholder engagements. Strategic advisor to non-profit and community organisations, supporting systems change, digital equity, and family violence reform with a focus on improving service responses, accountability, and culturally safe approaches. Currently serve on the National Affairs Committee of the Australian Greens and am a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD). Academic background includes an Executive MBA from the Australian Graduate School of Management (UNSW), a Postgraduate Diploma in Management from Melbourne Business School (University of Melbourne), and a degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Tasmania.

Richard Godsmark

Member

Richard Godsmark is a seasoned ICT leader with nearly 30 years of experience, including 23 years in the Canadian higher education sector. He currently serves as Director of Enterprise Enabling Systems at CQUniversity, where he leads strategic initiatives in IT governance, enterprise systems, and digital transformation.

Richard holds both a Bachelor and Master of Information Technology (with Distinction) from CQUniversity and maintains certifications in Privacy, Security, Risk Management, and IT Service Management. His career has been defined by leading large, multidisciplinary teams and managing complex technology portfolios that support institutional growth and innovation.

Internationally, Richard has contributed to the advancement of the ICT profession through advisory and community roles. He was a member of the IAPP Canadian Advisory Board, supporting national privacy dialogue and professional development, and participated in governance forums for CISO and CIO communities in Toronto. He also supported the launch of Canada’s first national college IT committee, aimed at strengthening collaboration and strategic alignment in cybersecurity and digital strategy.

Now actively building his professional network in Australia, Richard brings a collaborative mindset, strategic vision, and a passion for the transformative power of technology in education and public service. As a committed member of the ACS, he is eager to contribute to the ACS IT Governance Committee, offering insights, leadership, and a drive to help shape the future of ICT in Australia.

Sarani Juwana MSc, MBA, BBMgt, CIMA AdvMA, AIB Sarani Juwana is a Privacy and Responsible Information Sharing leader and IT Project Manager with extensive experience across information governance, Privacy, cyber security, and corporate services within the public sector. Sarani specialises in developing and implementing strategic frameworks that integrate privacy management, information security, and legislative compliance into operational practice. With a strong background in IT governance and risk-based decision-making, Sarani has led complex, multi‑stakeholder initiatives involving privacy reform, data sharing, cyber security uplift, and systems modernisation. This includes translating legislative obligations into practical controls, policies, and assurance mechanisms that support secure and ethical information handling. Prior to working in government, Sarani held senior roles in banking as a former Bank Manager, bringing a strong grounding in financial risk management, compliance, and customer‑focused service delivery. Sarani is also an experienced lecturer, delivering tertiary‑level education in management and business disciplines, with a focus on governance, ethics, and strategic leadership. Sarani’s professional interests include cyber security governance, privacy‑by‑design, responsible data sharing, and the intersection of emerging technologies with regulatory and ethical frameworks. Sarani is committed to building secure, trustworthy digital environments that enable innovation while safeguarding individuals and communities.

Tim Prosser

Tim Prosser is the Founding Director of Sustainably Digital and a recognised expert in digital sustainability. He possesses over two decades of professional experience spanning systems integration, enterprise technology working in financial services, energy, defence aerospace and climate tech innovation. Tim focuses on uncovering the "hidden environmental cost" of digital transformation, advocating for comprehensive climate strategies that address the full environmental impact of an organisation's digital operations. He provides practitioners with guidance on establishing accurate technology emissions baselines, addressing e-waste challenges, and moving beyond spend-based measurement approaches toward more meaningful data. A thought leader in the sector, Tim draws parallels between the evolution of IT and sustainability functions. He argues that just as IT shifted from a support function to a core driver of business strategy over the last 15 years, sustainability must undergo a similar transition. He actively leads industry discussions on these topics, including moderating executive roundtables such as "Digital Carbon Footprint: From Greenwash to Accountability" during Climate Action Week Sydney.

Tio is a highly regarded techno-functional leader based in Melbourne, bringing over two decades of expertise in software engineering, cloud architecture, and strategic digital product management. He currently serves as the Founder and Chief Technology Officer of BlueGreen Systems, an innovative enterprise dedicated to developing multi-tenant cloud infrastructure and AI-native e-commerce solutions.

With a profound specialisation in the orchestration of autonomous, agentic AI ecosystems, Tio's technical vision is intrinsically linked to environmental stewardship. He actively advocates for leveraging intelligent algorithms and dynamic resource allocation to optimise sustainable supply chains and significantly minimise the digital footprint of large-scale technological operations.

Tio holds a Master of Business Information Technology with Distinction from RMIT University. As a dedicated member of the ACS Sustainability Committee, he is committed to applying his extensive technical acumen to champion robust governance, digital sovereignty, and tangible, technology-led initiatives that support Australia's trajectory toward a sustainable future.

Tom Zorde

Member

Tom Zorde is an independent principal consultant. He specialises in sustainable digital strategy, architecture, and governance. He has held chairperson roles of national advisory committees, and is an expert contributor to international standards in sustainability, internet of things and digital twin technologies. Tom has led large volunteer communities to deliver award winning smart city infrastructure for Western Australia.

Dr Umera Imtinan

Member

Dr Umera Imtinan is a Lecturer in the School of Information Technology at Murdoch University. Dr Imtinan has made significant contributions to understanding how sustainability can be embedded within the design and development of Information Systems including AI systems. She currently leads multiple research projects that examine environmental impacts of IT sector and explores sustainable system development practices, engaging both IT students and industry professionals. Dr Imtinan’s research interests also include how AI and large language models can support personalised and adaptive learning environments within an ethical and human centred technology adoption model. She explores how these technologies can enhance student engagement, build digital capability, and strengthen AI literacy across higher education — for both teaching academics and students.

Associate Professor Andrew Levula

Member

Associate Professor Andrew Levula is a senior business and IT academic, leader, and strategic transformation specialist with over 15 years’ experience across government, higher education, industry, and regional development in Australia and the Pacific. He is currently IT Program Director and Lumen Research Director at Excelsia University College and he holds a PhD from The University of Sydney, a Master of Information Communication and Technology with distinction from the University of Wollongong, a Postgraduate Diploma in Computing Systems and Information Systems from the University of the South Pacific and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Information Systems.  He also holds a graduate certificate in Tertiary Education from Victoria University and is a senior and certified professional member of the Australian Computer Society.

Associate Professor Levula is focused on interdisciplinary research on sustainable development, disaster adaptation and resilience, financial inclusion and green finance, economic development, green technology and cybersecurity, and agile project management with an emphasis on evidence-based practice. He has collaborated with organisations such as UNDRR, UNCDF, NDMO, government agencies and regional partners to advance sustainability, resilience, digital capability, and socioeconomic development across the Pacific. Through his work, he integrates academic rigor with practical implementation, contributing to policy development, capacity building, and innovative solutions that address real-world wicked problems and support inclusive, mid and long-term development outcomes. His international academic and professional engagements include participation in conferences and strategic discussions at University of Oxford, University of Cambridge, Osaka University, and University of Bologna. This exposure has strengthened his global and regional perspectives so that he can effectively contribute to the development of the ACS sustainable committee.
