<p><img alt="User-added image" src="https://acsau.file.force.com/servlet/servlet.ImageServer?id=015GB00000Icq14&amp;oid=00D90000000o5NE&amp;lastMod=1708416376000"></img></p> <em>&quot;Innovation is seeing what everybody has seen and thinking what nobody has thought&quot;</em> - Dr Albert Szent-Gyorgyi<br><br>Charlie Gunningham has made a whole bunch of mistakes, enough for a lifetime, and then some. In fact, he&#39;s been so bad at this, it&#39;s amazing he&#39;s still here, and we even want to listen to him. But then again, if you&#39;ve never made a mistake, you&#39;ve never made a decision. Getting things wrong from time to time, in a universe of uncertainty, can be a great way of learning. <br><br>In this interactive, fun session, hear from someone with 25+ years experience in startupland. Someone who has: <ul><li>lived and worked on 3 continents; </li><li>been a teacher; </li><li>a startup founder (through to exit) multiple times;</li><li>lecturer (in SE Asia and Perth); </li><li>been a CEO, investor, adviser; and</li><li>worked in private sectors, NFP and federal / state governments</li></ul> <p>Charlie is an international cricketer and occasionally bangs a drum in a blues band, but he won&#39;t talk about that. He is an Aussie, but was born in England, and loves the approach of Bazball (run towards fear, do something new every day...)<br><br><br>Post presentation light refreshments provided.<br><br> </p> <p><strong><u>PLEASE NOTE:</u></strong></p> <p><em>To confirm attendance and CPD point allocation, on arrival at registration, please make sure to have your event confirmation e-mail with QR code ready to present where your attendance will be recorded. Charlie has spent more than 20 years in Perth’s business, tech, media and startup sectors: from founder through to exit, as CEO, mentor, advisor / investor, in federal and (now) state government.

Originally from the UK, he spent 8 years in Singapore before arriving in Perth in 1997. He graduated top of UWA Business School with an MBA and co-founded property listings site aussiehome.com in 1999, which was later sold to REIWA in 2010. He then ran reiwa.com, went on to be CEO of Business News, and work on the federal government's Accelerating Commercialisation fund.

In 2021, he was awarded WA Pearcey Entrepreneur of the Year at the 30th Incite Awards, and in early 2022 joined the state government as Director Innovation at the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation (JTSI), running the New Industries Fund.

COVID-19 Event Attendance Compliance

By registering to attend an ACS in person event you are agreeing to the below terms and conditions

  • If an attendee is displaying flu or cold like symptoms in the days leading up to the event and therefore is not able to attend, ACS will refund the registration fee.
  • If an attendee comes to an event and is displaying flu or cold like symptoms they will be asked to leave
  • We ask all ACS members to respect the social distancing guidelines, if an attendee repeatedly disregards these guidelines, they may be asked to leave
  • ACS reserves the right to cancel the event within 24 hours' notice if either the speaker or the event host has advised us that they are exhibiting flu or cold like symptoms
  • All attendees must provide a valid phone number and email address to be contacted on if there is reason to notify about a possible COVID-19 exposure
