Hear from Yohan Ramasundara, President of ACS and Steve Baxter, Founder of River City Labs and Qld Chief Entrepreneur as they explore how organisations and individuals united, can collaborate to innovate and create competitive advantage to advance our nation and economy.<br><br>In recent years, both organisations have created co-working communities for tech startups, entrepreneurs and industry mentors. Both organisations have also developed extensive international networks and by collaborating will leverage each other’s successes and learn from each other’s experiences.<br> <br>RCL launched in Brisbane in March 2012 to give Queensland’s tech community a centralised location to anchor start-up and early stage ventures. Since that time, more than 700 startups have set up office at RCL and another 29,000 have passed through its doors with more than 1,000 startup and community events. RCL has since become one of Australia’s leading startup ecosystems and Brisbane’s most prominent.<br> <br>ACS launched their first tech accelerator in Sydney in February 2018 as part of their new strategic plan. As the leading professional association for the ICT sector in Australia for over 50 years supporting over 45,000 members across business, government, research and education institutions. A long-time supporter of Australian startups, this was ACS’ first direct venture and investment into driving new technological innovation to take to the world and job creation by helping businesses and founders to scale.<br><br>Hear how these organisations and individuals are united in building, supporting, investing and nurturing Australian tech startups to compete in the global digital economy and for Australia to be a world leader in technology talent that fosters innovation and creates new forms of value.<br>

Yohan Ramasundara

Yohan Ramasundara

Yohan is an experienced executive with a strong track record of successful achievement of business outcomes leading high-performing teams in public, private and not-for-profit sectors for over fifteen years. Yohan is an Australian Public Service (APS) employee from Canberra. In 2017 Yohan was in San Francisco Bay Area as the Innovation Manager International Operations for Austrade. Previously he was the Head of Governance at IP Australia and National Manager of Assurance Services at Ecowise Environmental, Australia’s largest provider of integrated environmental consulting services at the time. Yohan is the President of the Australian Computer Society (ACS) and the Secretary General of SEARCC – the Asia Pacific Forum for Information Communication Technology (ICT). Yohan is also an international Cricket umpire. A graduate of University of Canberra, with ICT, accounting and finance qualifications, he is also the recipient of the prestigious University of Canberra gold leadership award at the 2005 Blues & Leadership awards for his sporting achievements. He is currently authoring a children’s story book in his spare time.

Steve Baxter

Steve Baxter

ech start-up investor Steve Baxter is a proud Queenslander, born in the remote town of Cloncurry and raised in Emerald in the State’s central highlands. He left school at 15 and joined the Army, enlisting in its apprenticeship program. There, he became a technician working in the field of electronics, telecoms and guided weapon systems. In 1994, at the age of 23, Steve put his life savings of $11,000 to launch his first start-up, the pioneering internet service provider SE Net, from the spare room of his Adelaide home. SE Net was eventually acquired by Ozemail/UUNet under the stewardship of its founding Director and former Prime Minister, Malcolm Turnbull.

  • ACS reserves the right to change the program at any time. Every effort will be made to ensure a program of equivalent standard and members are updated with changes.
  • All dietary requirements are considered, however we cannot guarantee a 100% allergen free environment.
  • ACS reserves the right to prohibit entry or eject any person from an ACS event based on behaviour deemed inappropriate by ACS staff, its agents and/or others working under its authority.
  • Filming or streaming by attendees is not permitted. If an attendee is found to be doing so they will be asked to leave the event immediately and further action may be taken.
  • Photography and/or filming may take place during this event, by accepting these terms you consent to this. Please let a member of ACS know if you do not want your picture taken.

COVID-19 Event Attendance Compliance

By registering to attend an ACS in person event you are agreeing to the below terms and conditions

  • If an attendee is displaying flu or cold like symptoms in the days leading up to the event and therefore is not able to attend, ACS will refund the registration fee.
  • If an attendee comes to an event and is displaying flu or cold like symptoms they will be asked to leave
  • We ask all ACS members to respect the social distancing guidelines, if an attendee repeatedly disregards these guidelines, they may be asked to leave
  • ACS reserves the right to cancel the event within 24 hours' notice if either the speaker or the event host has advised us that they are exhibiting flu or cold like symptoms
  • All attendees must provide a valid phone number and email address to be contacted on if there is reason to notify about a possible COVID-19 exposure
