Speech Evaluation – How to evaluate someone who speaks a lot better than you?<br><br>You may not have the speaking experience to stand on the stage and show the speaker what he needs to do.  <br><br>But you have the audience experience of listening to speeches and know what you did and didn&#39;t like as an audience member. <br><br>You have probably been sitting in the audience and listening to speeches longer than the speaker has been standing on the stage delivering speeches!<br> <br><b>Likewise:</b> <ul><li>Do you have to be a great actor to know if you like a movie?</li><li>Do you have to be a great chef to know if you like a meal?</li></ul> But as you are the one watching the movie or eating the meal, your viewpoint of whether you enjoyed it or not is extremely important!<br> <br>The same is true in speaking. <br>      <br>Since you are the one listening to the speech, your viewpoint is extremely important!<br> <br>Evaluate the speech and the speaker from your viewpoint - from sitting in the audience.<br>•    How did his speech effect you?<br>•    Were you able to easily follow the flow and logic of the speech?<br>•    What held your attention?<br>•    Was there anything that was confusing or didn&#39;t make sense?<br>•    Was there anything distracting to you? <br>•    Was there something he or she said that you wanted more detail about?<br>•    Was there anything that interested/disinterested you?<br><br>These are questions only you can answer, based on how the speech affected you.<br> <br><b>In looking at a speech, stick with the speaking basics of:</b><br>•    Organization - opening, body, conclusion,<br>•    Vocal variety and pace,<br>•    Gestures, body and stage movement,<br>•    Clear easily understood word choices.<br><br>But after that, how did the speech effect you?<br> <br>Speech evaluation/coaching is not about clever analogies, quick witted humor or repeating the speech just given. It is similar to a customer review of a product or service.<br> <br>It is about your viewpoint on these things - what do you feel they are doing well and do you feel can they improve on? Your viewpoint is your viewpoint. It matters! It is important!   • ACS reserves the right to change the program at any time. Every effort will be made to ensure a program of equivalent standard and members are updated with changes.
  • All dietary requirements are considered, however we cannot guarantee a 100% allergen free environment.
  • ACS reserves the right to prohibit entry or eject any person from an ACS event based on behaviour deemed inappropriate by ACS staff, its agents and/or others working under its authority.
  • Filming or streaming by attendees is not permitted. If an attendee is found to be doing so they will be asked to leave the event immediately and further action may be taken.
  • Photography and/or filming may take place during this event, by accepting these terms you consent to this. Please let a member of ACS know if you do not want your picture taken.

COVID-19 Event Attendance Compliance

By registering to attend an ACS in person event you are agreeing to the below terms and conditions

  • If an attendee is displaying flu or cold like symptoms in the days leading up to the event and therefore is not able to attend, ACS will refund the registration fee.
  • If an attendee comes to an event and is displaying flu or cold like symptoms they will be asked to leave
  • We ask all ACS members to respect the social distancing guidelines, if an attendee repeatedly disregards these guidelines, they may be asked to leave
  • ACS reserves the right to cancel the event within 24 hours' notice if either the speaker or the event host has advised us that they are exhibiting flu or cold like symptoms
  • All attendees must provide a valid phone number and email address to be contacted on if there is reason to notify about a possible COVID-19 exposure

By registering for this event, you are providing personal information to the Australian Computer Society. In accordance with the ACS Privacy Policy, ACS collects personal information through registrations and attendances at its events for the purposes of:
