ACS Tech and Employability Skills Half Day Conference: Explore different opportunities in the tech world
The ACS Tech and Employability Skills Half-Day Conference is targeted towards, but not limited to students currently completing their studies. This event will allow participants to keep abreast of their professional development through several thought industry led sessions that will highlight the ways in which student and graduates can stand out and succeed in the tech world.
About this event
The event will consist of 4 sessions where our industry experts will share their insights on how to map out your professional career. Attendees will hear more about what skills are required for a tech professional to succeed and what additional resources you can use to improve your employability. Further, you will also learn more about what IT companies are looking for and how you can get ready for your next step to flourish throughout your career.
In attending this event you will receive 4 CPD hours if all 4 sessions are attended. You are still required to complete all event reports during the Professional Environments online course to document your participation and key learning outcomes for these professional development events.
ALL 4 SESSIONS MUST BE ATTENDED TO RECEIVE 4 CPD HOURS.
Session #1 In-Demand tech skills and succeeding in your career
Presented by Damien Charles
This session will cover:
- Trending and in-demand Tech skills.
- How COVID-19 is changing the landscape for Tech employment.
- Key factors for succeeding in your career.
- How the confluence of in-demand tech skills and these key factors have helped me succeed.
Session #2 Leadership in a digital world
Presented by Brent Valle
This presentation takes the audience on an emotionally charged yet highly practical journey where they will leave feeling motivated, empowered and totally at cause for the results and non-results in their lives.
Sharing strategies to help people have a greater understanding of who they are to living a life of adventure both professionally and in their day to day lives, Brent combines his experience, expertise with his real-life stories which leave the audience engaged, captivated and wanting more.
Session #3 What skills employers are looking for beyond the technical
Presented by Liz Dallimore
In this talk, our speaker will discuss:
- What data science and analytic leaders are looking for in terms of both technical aptitude, but also other skills that will set people apart.
- The types of companies employing data analysts.
- Typical day in the life of a data scientist.
Session #4 AI for beginners and its capabilities
Presented by Aldeida Aleti
At this session, our speaker will answer some top-of-mind questions about Artificial Intelligence such as:
- What is AI?
- What can it do well?
- What are its weaknesses?
- How will our AI-future look like?
Notice for ACS Professional Year Students
When attending virtual events, in order to claim and qualify for the required CPD hours, Professional Year students need to attend the online event in its entirety which will be tracked by the ACS events team.

Speakers

Beyond his career as a highly successful entrepreneur, Brent is often referred to as courageous and a go-getter with limitless determination. He has made it his life’s mission to inspire and empower those around him to achieve what he has.
Brent’s story is not entirely made up of successes, his honesty and authenticity both endears and inspires audiences around the world. He struggled from humble beginnings to achieve all that he has today, and is proof that determination can take you anywhere.
Hearing of Brent’s unique path through life allows for audiences to look at their own challenges with a fresh perspective elevating them to achieve whatever is on their hearts.
As a long term Territorian with a keen interest in helping others to achieve success in the ICT industry, and also to develop the industry in the North of Australia, he has invested considerable time and effort in supporting the local university and students and is an active member of a number of the local associations and ICT Committee’s. He is a passionate advocate for the ACS and its role in providing guidance and support.
Prior to joining the Hub, Liz was the National Director for Research Engagement & Commercialisation at KPMG. Liz spent 12 years in consulting working with both the start-up and SME community and large corporates to help them fund and commercialise novel ideas and technologies. Liz has also worked as a scientist at the Australian Neuromuscular Research Institute (now the Perron Institute for Neurological and Translations Sciences) and at the UK’s Food Standards Agency. Liz holds a PhD in Neuroscience, an MBA and a BSc. (Hons).

Registration
- Payment in full is required the time of booking in order for the registration to be valid.
- To avoid disappointment, ensure you pay for your booking(s) before the registration closing date. Anyone that has not received a confirmation email will not be on the event attendance list and therefore will not be admitted to the event.
- Online registration ends at the time stated on the event details page.
Cancellation and Refund
All cancellations must be processed through the website, a refund will only be considered if it is at least 3 working days prior to the event.
Disclaimer
- ACS reserves the right to change the program at any time. Every effort will be made to ensure a program of equivalent standard and members are updated with changes.
- All dietary requirements are considered, however we cannot guarantee a 100% allergen free environment.
- ACS reserves the right to prohibit entry or eject any person from an ACS event based on behaviour deemed inappropriate by ACS staff, its agents and/or others working under its authority.
- Filming or streaming by attendees is not permitted. If an attendee is found to be doing so they will be asked to leave the event immediately and further action may be taken.

COVID-19 Event Attendance Compliance
By registering to attend an ACS in person event you are agreeing to the below terms and conditions
- If an attendee is displaying flu or cold like symptoms in the days leading up to the event and therefore is not able to attend, ACS will refund the registration fee.
- If an attendee comes to an event and is displaying flu or cold like symptoms they will be asked to leave
- We ask all ACS members to respect the social distancing guidelines, if an attendee repeatedly disregards these guidelines, they may be asked to leave
- ACS reserves the right to cancel the event within 24 hours' notice if either the speaker or the event host has advised us that they are exhibiting flu or cold like symptoms
- All attendees must provide a valid phone number and email address to be contacted on if there is reason to notify about a possible COVID-19 exposure
