This presentation dispels some of the common myths of quantum computing, explains its reality and some of the promises claimed by quantum technology vendors and researchers. </span></span></span></span><br><br><span style="font-size: 11pt;"><span style="font-family: Calibri,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt;"><span style="color: black;">By walking through the fundamental principles of quantum computing, the currently used tools and practical applications, the seminar clears both the hype and negativity towards the new technology, and casts some light on its current trends, progress, and timelines.</span></span></span></span><br><br><span style="font-size: 11pt;"><span style="font-family: Calibri,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt;"><span style="color: black;">The seminar clarifies some of the challenges faced by quantum hardware manufacturers, the gaps between quantum software functionality vs utility and productivity, difficulties in the transition of quantum applications from lab to practice, and the severity of skill shortages in the quantum computing market. Jacob Cybulski

Jacob Cybulski

Dr Jacob Cybulski is an Honorary Associate Professor in the School of Information Technology, Faculty of Science, Engineering and Built Environment. Previously, Jacob was with the Department of Information Systems and Business Analytics. His experience also includes academic and research positions at a number of Australian organisations and he worked as an IT consultant to various organisations. Jacobs research interests focus on Quantum Computing and Quantum Machine Learning, Data Analytics and Visualisation. His past projects range from engineering and telecommunications applications to developing software productivity environments and toolkits. In the past, he managed Advanced Business Analytics Lab and was Director of SAS Visual Analytics Collaboratory at Deakin. He was a principal investigator of large cross-institutional research programmes funded with competitive grants in data visualization, business analytics and in e-simulation, which subsequently received university and national awards. He completed and published results of several large projects funded by the government and industry.

COVID-19 Event Attendance Compliance

By registering to attend an ACS in person event you are agreeing to the below terms and conditions

  • If an attendee is displaying flu or cold like symptoms in the days leading up to the event and therefore is not able to attend, ACS will refund the registration fee.
  • If an attendee comes to an event and is displaying flu or cold like symptoms they will be asked to leave
  • We ask all ACS members to respect the social distancing guidelines, if an attendee repeatedly disregards these guidelines, they may be asked to leave
  • ACS reserves the right to cancel the event within 24 hours' notice if either the speaker or the event host has advised us that they are exhibiting flu or cold like symptoms
  • All attendees must provide a valid phone number and email address to be contacted on if there is reason to notify about a possible COVID-19 exposure
