ACS Virtual Tech and Employability Skills Half Day Conference: Level Up Your Career Opportunities
The ACS Virtual Tech and Employability Skills Half-Day Conference is targeted towards, but not limited to, students currently completing their studies. This online event will allow participants to keep abreast of their professional development through several industry-led sessions that will highlight how students and graduates can stand out and succeed in the tech world. Event timings are based on Australian Eastern Standard Timings.

Session 1 - Courageous Communications for Tech Professionals

Session 2 - Level Up Your Opportunities by Building Games

Video games are no longer just a guilty pleasure. Today, game developers realize that the technical and soft skills that they use to build games are in high demand throughout a wide range of fields. In this talk, we’ll show you how to expand your horizons by applying game development skills to a wide range of other tech industries - such as programming, cloud computing, UX, and project management.
Session 3 - CV and Interview Skills for Emerging Tech Professionals
Speaker - Nicola Steel, Founder, JJP Talent
The presentation will focus on writing a winning CV, job search strategies and interview tips to secure the perfect role and company.
PLEASE NOTE: ALL 3 SESSIONS MUST BE ATTENDED TO RECEIVE 3 CPD HOURS.
When attending virtual events, in order to claim and qualify for the required CPD hours, Professional Year students need to attend the online event in its entirety which will be tracked by the ACS events team. Please ensure you don't minimise your window when attending a virtual event.
Speakers
Holly Bretherton is State Manager at ACS Queensland and oversees member recruitment and engagement, professional development, government liaison, and local marketing and communications activities for the Branch. Holly has worked for 20 years in a range of executive management roles in membership organisations including AMA Queensland, Queensland Law Society and Aged Care Queensland. Holly is passionate about connecting ACS members with the relevant professional networks, resources and educational programs to further their tech careers at each and every stage, and supporting a strong, vibrant community of ACS Queensland members across all of Queensland.
Dulitha is a Data Analytics professional with experience in various roles such as Business Analyst, Data Analyst and a Data Solution Analyst, currently working at the Bank of Queensland as a Business Intelligence Analyst providing data driven solutions to business related problems. He has always been passionate about data driven insights and using those insights to solve business problems and drive growth. He is also an energetic extrovert who highly believes in professional networking to gain knowledge and expand network. He currently represents the Australian Computer Society (ACS) as the Practice Lead of Queensland Emerging Professionals Community
Pauline Fetaui is General Manager of River City Labs; Founder of CheeHoo a Personal assistant and Organiser app; Co-host of a Splash of Colour Podcast. Prior to Joining River City Labs, Pauline brings 19 years as leading and delivering Digital, Tech Transformation and Regulatory Change across Banking, Superannuation, Insurance and Government.
Certified game developer and founder of Zenva - a leading platform to learn programming and game making that has supported over 1 million learners in their coding careers and hobbies.
Pablo is a member of the Intel Software Innovator Program in the Asia Pacific Region, and has run live programming workshops in San Francisco, Brisbane and Bangalore. Pablo holds a Master in Information Technology (Management) degree from the University of Queensland.
Nicola Steel is the Founder of JJP Talent Solutions, an IT recruitment business based in Brisbane. She has over 20 years IT recruitment experience in both Australia and the UK working with a diverse range of clients. Since 1999, she has connected over 1000 tech professionals with high growth startups, innovative SMEs and visionary corporates. Over 99% of candidates she places pass their probation period and become highly valued team members thus avoiding the pain and cost of a bad hire. Nicola is the Preferred Recruitment Partner to both the Australian Computer Society and River City Labs. One of her passions is helping tech startups to scale and grow and she is also a Mentor at River City Labs. Nicola is passionate about improving diversity within the tech industry as well as building high performing tech teams and outstanding IT careers.
Event Terms & Conditions
Registration
- Payment in full is required the time of booking in order for the registration to be valid.
- To avoid disappointment, ensure you pay for your booking(s) before the registration closing date. Anyone that has not received a confirmation email will not be on the event attendance list and therefore will not be admitted to the event.
- Online registration ends at the time stated on the event details page.
Cancellation and Refund
All cancellations must be processed through the website, a refund will only be considered if it is at least 3 working days prior to the event.
Disclaimer
- ACS reserves the right to change the program at any time. Every effort will be made to ensure a program of equivalent standard and members are updated with changes.
- All dietary requirements are considered, however we cannot guarantee a 100% allergen free environment.
- ACS reserves the right to prohibit entry or eject any person from an ACS event based on behaviour deemed inappropriate by ACS staff, its agents and/or others working under its authority.
- Filming or streaming by attendees is not permitted. If an attendee is found to be doing so they will be asked to leave the event immediately and further action may be taken.
- Photography and/or filming may take place during this event, by accepting these terms you consent to this. Please let a member of ACS know if you do not want your picture taken.
COVID-19 Event Attendance Compliance
By registering to attend an ACS in person event you are agreeing to the below terms and conditions
- If an attendee is displaying flu or cold like symptoms in the days leading up to the event and therefore is not able to attend, ACS will refund the registration fee.
- If an attendee comes to an event and is displaying flu or cold like symptoms they will be asked to leave
- We ask all ACS members to respect the social distancing guidelines, if an attendee repeatedly disregards these guidelines, they may be asked to leave
- ACS reserves the right to cancel the event within 24 hours' notice if either the speaker or the event host has advised us that they are exhibiting flu or cold like symptoms
- All attendees must provide a valid phone number and email address to be contacted on if there is reason to notify about a possible COVID-19 exposure
