Sydney, 29 November 2016: The ACS, the professional association for Australia’s ICT sector, is pleased to congratulate ACS alumnus Mr. Yasas Abeywickrama on his election as President of the Computer Society of Sri Lanka (CSSL).

During his career, Mr. Abeywickrama has worked in the USA, UK, Sri Lanka & Australia. In Australia, he actively engaged with ACS branches in South Australia in 2007 and Victoria in 2008-2009 before entering the national arena as a Young IT Board Member and Director between 2008-2010. In his conduct and professionalism, he typifies how the ACS looks for its members to engage.

The news comes as the ACS hosts IFIP Presidents, Councillors and other ICT experts from all parts of the globe in Sydney at its Ministerial Forum on innovation and cybersecurity on 30 November and its Reimagination Thought Leaders Summit on 1 December.

ACS President and IFIP Board Member Anthony Wong said, “One of the ACS’ favourite alumni has been elected to serve as CSSL President. I and my fellow ACS colleagues and members welcome the chance to congratulate Yasas in person upon his arrival in Sydney.

“An entrepreneur, trainer and a freelance journalist, Yasas also wrote for PC Magazine on behalf of the ACS during his time in Australia. He is a great example of diversity at work. Yasas sought out involvement in ACS governance and our leadership eagerly mentored and encouraged him.”

Currently the CEO of Lanka BPO Academy (www.lankabpoacademy.lk), Mr. Abeywickrama most recently served as CSSL Vice President and he remains a Councillor on the Board of the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP).

Yasas has a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from University of Colombo and a Masters degree in Entrepreneurship & Innovation from Swinburne University in Australia.
