Where do I start?
You first need to consider your visa options with the Department of Immigration and Citizenship. From this, you are able to find out which occupation codes can be nominated to support your visa status. The codes will vary depending on whether you are coming or continuing in Australia on the basis of independent migration (General Skilled Migration) or through sponsorship arrangements either by an employer or state government.
1A) Can I use a Migration Agent?
If you choose to go through a migration agent you must provide written authority that they may act on your behalf and they will receive all communication and correspondence from the ACS regarding your
application. The ACS is unable to recommend the appointment of any particular agent.
1B) Do I have to use a Migration Agent?
No, you may lodge the application yourself.
1C) I have not submitted my skills assessment application yet, but can you tell me whether I would be successful or not?
No, due to the extensive and complex nature of the skills assessment process, it is not possible for us to provide a result outcome until you complete a skills assessment application.
1D) I will meet the criteria in the assessment guidelines shortly. Can I apply now?
You should wait until you meet the assessment criteria. We can only recognise what you have achieved before the application date (determined as the date on which we receive the application in the National Office). If you are just short of experience or if you are about to complete a qualification, you run the risk of obtaining an unsuitable assessment, and having to lodge the application again.
1E) What is the English language or IELTS test requirement for the skill assessment?
The ACS does not have an English language or IELTS test requirement for skills assessment.
1F) I haven’t obtained all the required documentation yet. Can I still apply?
No, please wait until you have acquired all documentation as applicants are requested to submit decision ready applications.
