Audeara

As doctors, we saw people dealing with hearing loss first hand, and decided to do something about it.

Everyone has a unique hearing profile and as we age, so does our hearing. Every sound contributes to the evolution of your personal hearing profile, and ongoing, high-decibel exposure will cause noise-induced hearing loss.

We set out to build a device that would make hearing tests quicker and more accessible. The key was putting our technology into the hardware so the test could be conducted with any smart device, and we soon realised how this information could be used to tailor sound perfectly to the needs of each user.

Audeara was born: a premium pair of headphones that enhance music, entertainment and communication by focusing on what really matters - what you can hear.

BenchOn

BenchOn believes that all workers can have job stability if we solve the problem of employee under-utilisation. Under-utilisation happens when businesses are in a lull and do not have enough work coming in, or a contract gets cancelled unexpectedly or there is simply a gap between projects creating expensive periods where businesses have staff ‘on the bench’.

BenchOn solves this with it’s Business Talent Sharing Platform that allows businesses to earn revenue when they really need it, by ‘loaning’ their staff to other non-competing businesses who need specialist support. Now businesses can manage the peaks and troughs of the business cycle with paid contracts for their staff in the lulls, so they can keep them on as part of the team, and in the peaks when there is too much work on and not enough staff, they can now access the high-quality hidden talent inside Australia’s best companies.

BenchOn is Nation-wide and supports over 10 industries, including Defence, IT, Mining, Rail, Telecommunications and Education.

PowerWells is a social enterprise hardware company that began at a regional Startup Weekend in Logan, Queensland. They identified that electric light and mobile phone charging are two of the most effective tools against poverty but even basic electricity is often prohibitively expensive so they set out to help.

PowerWells now setup micro-businesses in remote communities, being small-scale solar systems made from electronic waste. An individual then sells cheap electricity to their community, giving themselves an income and providing the whole community with increased educational and economic opportunities. With the help of the Greater Outcomes’ Impact Academy program, they were able to jointly win the recent [email protected] Australia competition and are now working on commercialisation through the University of Queensland iLab Germinate program.

World’s Biggest Garage Sale

It all started in 2013 when Yasmin Grigaliunas, CEO and Co-founder of the World’s Biggest Garage Sale (WBGS), did a spring clean and decided to hold a garage sale to sell the family ‘stuff’. She did a shout out to friends and family, and before she knew it, what started as a humble springing cleaning garage sale to raise money for cancer research, exploded into an annual community event in Brisbane, giving birth to WBGS!

Fast forward a few years and WBGS is a Brisbane based start-up/scale-up, designing solutions to commercialise the circular economy through the activation of dormant goods for good. Strongly aligned to United Nations Sustainable Development Goals particularly SDG12 ‘responsible consumption and production’, our whole philosophy is to activate sustainable consumption practices and promote the circular economy locally, with the intention to take it global. We’re diverting landfill, and drawing wealth from waste which is invested back into our local communities.

Currently, WBGS hosts large-scale local re-commerce events and is developing a digital platform enabling communities globally to reproduce these large-scale re-commerce events through a toolkit. WBGS wants to provide positive impact for people, planet and profit for purpose on a global level.

Sound Scouts

Sound Scouts is focused on delivering affordable, accessible digital hearing checks, with transparent care pathways, for both children and adults. Sound Scouts represents a new way of testing hearing. A fun way!

The Sound Scouts test takes the form of an interactive game delivered on a mobile device using headphones. It combines the engaging powers of play with the scientific principles of a hearing test. No additional specialist hardware is required and with the expertise built in, any responsible adult can oversee testing.

Sound Scouts has been developed in collaboration with the National Acoustic Laboratories (“NAL”), a global leader in hearing science. The test checks for conductive and sensorineural hearing loss and listening difficulties in noise.

The technology was originally developed to provide a hearing check for children at school entry. Hearing loss in children can result in delays in speech and language development, lack of phonological awareness, which can result in difficulties learning to read, and trouble in social situations (sometimes leading to depression). Identifying hearing loss early is key to living a healthy productive life.

Sound Scouts, Hear for your future.

Fin15

Fin15 is a financial advisory company that targets university students and young professionals. Within our first month of launching we obtained 181 sign ups from which we have processed 43 clients, creating about $750k Funds under management. These 43 clients were processed manually which on average takes about eight hours per client.

We have developed the first version of our CRM and Communication System which will allow us to cut the processing time of these clients from thirteen hours to four hours.

Through the development of this technology we expect to process approximately sixty clients a month. In future, we will be raising funds to develop “Version 2.0” of our system to improve the processing time even further to our goal of two hours per client.

Our main objective is to streamline our automation completely and the use of AI so we can develop an Application that will allow are more timely scale. Furthermore, up until this point we have been ‘boot-strapping’ in every way, we are excited for what we can achieve and the impact we could have on the market, were we afforded the funding to make these developments.

We recognize that small & medium businesses are the lifeblood of the local and national economy. Whilst they have the advantage in terms of individuality, customer service and creating a “vibe” within their neighborhoods, they don’t enjoy the benefits of big business buying power, systems, invoicing, data, and marketing opportunities.

Hum’s mission is to provide exactly that.

Hum is a mobile first, commerce platform that assists food service businesses of all sizes to optimise their operations with incredibly simple technology.

Equal Reality creates Diversity and Inclusion training in Virtual Reality (VR).  Our VR experiences allow you to “walk a mile in someone else’s shoes” to learn what it is like to experience discrimination or inappropriate behavior, then practice making decisions and rehearsing behaviors in a risk-free simulation of real life.

We have had phenomenal traction to date - working with enterprise businesses, government organizations, militaries, schools, and Diversity and Inclusion trainers spanning across the globe - in Australia, Asia, North America, and Europe and expanding rapidly.

Most excitingly, we are moving quickly towards a SaaS business model - having created a proprietary software tool that allows anyone to generate high-quality simulations in VR, focused on human/social interactions - with no technical skill required.  In fact, every VR training simulation delivered to our clients is created using our software.

By automating the most expensive, technically difficult tasks inherent in VR content creation we are solving the VR industry's #1 problem - dramatically reducing the cost of creating VR content and broadening the tent of content creators.

Staybil creates stability through mobility.  Our AI-powered Workforce Geo-Optimisation Engine uses transport APIs, mapping technology, and PhD level optimisation mathematics to reduce work related travel and commuting for every type of location-based industry.

For existing workforces, it identifies employees with similar attributes (like role, wage, and experience) but with opposite commutes and provides mobility options so people can work closest to home.  This turns any static workforce into a dynamic one by letting them access jobs anywhere you have them.

For future workforces, our TalentView geo-recruitment tools ensure that people are hired into the right locations from the start. And local employees are proven to be more loyal and more engaged.

And for workforces that travel as part of their job, we dramatically reduce their travel time and distance to maximise their efficiency.  Our intelligent auto-scheduling and route optimisation tools ensure that mobile workforces are matched to the right jobs and deliveries.  This right-sizes the organisation and improves customer satisfaction while reducing fleet costs, urban congestion, and greenhouse gas emissions.

All of this is delivered via our proprietary Optimisation Software as a Service (OSaaS) model that seamlessly integrates into the best enterprise software suites and workforce management tools.

Link4

Link4 is seamless invoice delivery, or e-Invoicing, for small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Invoicing is a necessary function in doing business, but often entails costly inefficiencies and tedious challenges such as late payments, lost invoices, data entry errors or simply the time manual invoice processing takes. We make life easier for small business owners by enabling them to exchange invoices securely and seamlessly through their existing cloud accounting software (like Xero, QuickBooks, MYOB, Reckon, Sage, etc). No emails, physical or digital invoice storage, PDFs and OCR scanning tools are required. Link4 acts as a digital translator which sits between cloud accounting packages, enabling users to send and receive invoices seamlessly across different systems.

This is faster than any other invoice delivery process and more cost effective, achieving savings of up to 80% when compared to traditional invoicing. By automating key aspects of the invoicing process, we eliminate the need for manual data entry, reduce human error and facilitate cash flow improvements by means of a shorter invoice cycle.

Link4 is specifically designed to support small business owners, but we do service Enterprise and Government departments as well. This is the future of invoice processing. Link4 – Seamless Invoice Delivery.

Shiftiez

John Webster
Founder and CEO
Shiftiez

Shiftiez has turned workforce scheduling on its head starting with the employer and employee view of what a good shift looks like. This process is unique as it "humanises" rosters, allowing staff to say when they can and can't work as well as preferences for individual shifts before the roster is built.

Preferences let Shiftiez bias the roster where possible without penalty. As Shiftiez understands staff commitments, we reduce the chances of staff calling in sick, removing last minute changes and the costs associated with backfilling.

For employers, Shiftiez saves a huge amount of time automating scheduling while accounting for EBA's, leave and fatigue planning. We also include a fairness test that ensures staff can't game preferences to always get particular shifts or the least-favourite times, removing claims of bias which is another common problem.

Studies show that giving staff a say in their work-life balance leads to happier and more engaged staff with lower levels of sick leave and staff turnover. For industries such as emergency services, healthcare and call centres that cannot vary wages and conditions to attract and retain workers, we offer a competitive advantage and save significant costs in workforce planning.
