The Internet of Things is an emerging technology megatrend that will re-shape the global economy. This megatrend has not arrived over night. Rather it is the combination of miniaturisation, advanced manufacturing, the ubiquitous penetration of mobile networks, software innovation and access to low cost, powerful compute power.
The world will become instrumented and connected. Low cost sensors can be incorporated into almost anything. We can now sense, predict and control our environment with information technology, delivering massive potential to create value throughout global value chains.
With many times more things than people connected, the Internet of Things will produce many new sources of data at an ever expanding rate. What we do with that data in the economy is the key to the next wave of productivity. It can drive process improvement, predict consumer behaviour and improve the management and productivity of our natural resources.
Our guest speaker, Grantly Mailes, will discuss the Internet of Things from its beginnings to the role it will play in the next decade and beyond.
