The Australian Computer Society (ACS) has today congratulated Prime Minister elect Tony Abbott and the Liberal National Party coalition on their victory in the federal election. Over the last 6 years, the ACS has worked closely with Government Ministers and their departments on key policy initiatives, and looks forward to doing so with the new Government over the next parliamentary term.
ACS Chief Executive Officer Alan Patterson spoke of the relationship between Government and the ACS. “As the peak representative body for information and communications technology (ICT) professionals in Australia, our relationship with Government is critical in helping advance the success of our members and the ICT profession. For many years we have worked extensively at a Ministerial and departmental level to help deliver better outcomes for our members and the wider economy.”
“The recent Consumer Cloud Protocol discussion and consultation process which was facilitated by the ACS at the request of the Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy is an example of the excellent relationship the ACS has with Government.”
“We look forward to discussing with the new Government our plans for improving digital literacy, delivering greater support for ICT education and skills development, improving the quality of data on the digital economy, and strengthening engagement and dialogue with the private sector and the profession.. ICT professionals are critical to a growing, modern economy and the ACS looks forward to working closely with the new Government on the important policy challenges Australia faces as we seek to fully grasp the opportunities presented by the digital economy.”
