CBA Chief Information Officer Announced ACS Ambassador

Thursday, 15 Mar 2012

Thursday 15 March 2012: The Australian Computer Society (ACS) has today announced that Michael Harte, the Commonwealth Bank’s Group Executive and Chief Information Officer, will be an ACS Ambassador for the remainder of 2012. Mr Harte’s focus will be to encourage more youth to consider Information and Communications Technology (ICT) as a rich, rewarding and creative career.

ACS CEO Alan Patterson said ACS Ambassadors are ICT professionals who have reached the pinnacle of their profession. “It is through their contribution, energy and passion that they inspire greater recognition of the ICT profession. Our Ambassadors challenge stereotypes and show by example the immense creative possibilities of ICT in our lives.”

Taking on his new role as Ambassador, Michael will work with the ACS to promote career pathways and improve ICT standards of professionalism.

“It is a great privilege to be an ACS ambassador,” said Michael. “As industry professionals, it is important for us all to actively encourage more young people to see IT as an exciting career. They have the opportunity to work in almost any industry, from entertainment to social media; and anywhere in the world that their talent and skills can take them.”

Expressing his appreciation of Michael’s support, Mr Patterson added: “Michael was awarded CIO of the year in 2011 at the national iAwards. He has been recognised across industry and government for driving excellence in ICT, operations, customer service and corporate social responsibility to realise value for shareholders, customers and the community. He is an outstanding leader and we are proud to work closely with Michael in his Ambassador role.”
