Anisha Fernando

Anisha Fernando

I research about the privacy expectations people associate with personal data, data release in search, and explore approaches towards embedding privacy values in the design of technology. I have more than 5 years of experience as a researcher. My interests in research focus on the societal effects of technologies which impact people's quality of life, use of disruptive technologies to catalyse social innovations, and mechanisms to facilitate innovation in regional innovation systems.

As an educator with 3+ years of teaching experience, my primary role is as a lecturer and course coordinator for Design Thinking and Digital Innovation at SAIBT (in collaboration with UniSA and Navitas) and EIBT, and for Database Fundamentals at EIBT (in collaboration with Navitas, University of Adelaide and UniSA). I strive to create meaningful learning opportunities using student-centred learning methods, to empower students to take ownership of their learning no matter where they are at in their learning journey.

I am also passionate about raising privacy awareness and communicating data ethics research to the general public. Recently, I collaborated with a creative writer, and co-wrote and performed a science communication piece titled, ‘The Private Lives of Data’ for South Australia’s National Science Week 2018, after winning a Perform Your Science Grant from the Inspiring South Australia program
