<span style="font-size: medium;"><span style="font-family: calibri;">Data is the lifeblood of any organisation and without it future survival is not guaranteed.  Yet, acknowledging the importance, it is significant that it is treated so badly. <br><br>The focus today on new technologies and use of data, including the increasing volumes and velocity experienced by businesses is misleading.  Data and its use to facilitate effective business decisions is not new, in fact historically it has been implemented as far back as 200BC.  <br><br>This presentation will examine the role data has played in all facets of life, with real life examples, understanding that it is not a “new” capability or strategy but rather the technologies used to capture, store, access and manipulate are new and not data or its use. <br><br>It will also look at the importance of establishing and maintaining a holistic view of corporate data assets and the interrelationships and provenance that exist. <br><br>We will also examine corporate risk profile in relation to data management, particularly in relation to Personally Identifiable Information (PII) and Personal Credit Information (PCI) and the exposure to unknown protection breaches and legislative reporting requirements.</span></span><br><br><b>Speaker:</b><br>Peter Cassell (<span style="font-family: calibri,sans-serif; font-size: 11pt;"><font color="#000000">BBus, MSc)</font></span><br><br><span style="font-size: medium;"><span style="font-family: calibri;">With over 30 years’ experience in the IT industry Peter has developed a deep understanding of the technical and business aspects of the industry. With a focus on Business Information and Business Intelligence solution design and delivery, he has consulted for Federal, State and Local Government departments as well as a range or private sector organisations across a wide range of industries, providing strategic development,  Data Governance, Master Data Management, Data Quality, technical development, implementation and project/program management services.  </span></span><br><span style="font-size: medium;"><span style="font-family: calibri;">Peter has held numerous senior management positions in the corporate market as the Managing Director of HigherGround Technologies, the Business Intelligence Manager for Toyota Australia, Regional Director of SMS Technology Service Victoria, Portfolio Release Manager for the Telstra Business Intelligence Centre of Excellence, Global Business Intelligence Manager for Treasury Wine Estates, Program Director for the Information Management Enablement Program at AusNet Services and more recently the CIO at Western Region Water Corporation. He has a significant track record of success in designing and delivering Information Management Strategies across Public and Private entities, has contributed to the body of knowledge through published articles both domestic and international as well as completing speaking engagements in the US and Australia with organisations such as Oracle and SAP.  </span></span><br>
