<h2>About the Conference</h2> <p>The <b>Australian System Safety Conference</b> is hosted by the <a href="http://www.safety-club.org.au/" target="_blank"><font color="#0066cc">Australian Safety Critical Systems Association (aSCSa)</font></a>.</p> <p><b>System Safety</b> (also refered to as <b>functional safety</b>) is the application of engineering and management principles, criteria and techniques to achieve acceptable mishap risk, within the constraints of operational effectiveness and suitability, time, and cost, throughout all phases of the system life cycle. The goal of System Safety is to optimise safety thorough the identification of safety related risks, eliminating or controlling them by design and/or procedures.</p> <p>The Asia-Pacific Region today provides a great diversity in how the various countries ensure and assure safety. Indeed, this will be where System Safety can find relevance in almost all areas of endeavour.
