<div><br>STRICTLY LIMITED SEATING!<br><br>Most IT professionals come with a technical background and education.  They have cut their teeth on the tools.  However, with the greater commoditisation of IT and many of the technical skills being supplied through outsourcers, the role of the on-shore in-house IT professional is rapidly evolving into one of a trusted advisor. Allan Baird

Allan Baird

Allan Baird is a graduate of the SA Institute of Technology holding a B. Bus and Associate Diploma in Business (Industrial Engineering), and also has a Master of Business (Research) from the School of Information Systems, University of SA. He is a Fellow of the Australian Computer Society, and an Associate of the Institute of Industrial Engineers (Aust.)  

He is an independent Strategic Information Technology Consultant offering services in: 

  • IT Strategy
  • Stakeholder Analysis and Management
  • Benefits Realisation and Management
  • Vendor Management, and
  • Earned Value.
He is also a part-time lecturer at the University of SA in the post-graduate course, Organisational Transformation and Business Process Modelling. 

He has developed and delivers a program, Becoming a Trusted Advisor, both locally and overseas. Becoming a Trusted Advisor is a comprehensive program of presentations, exercises and mentoring for IT professionals looking to make the transition to trusted advisors.  

His past roles include: ICT Consultant for the new Royal Adelaide Hospital; Marketing and Industry Alliance Manager for the School of Computer and Information Science at the University of South Australia; World-Wide Portfolio Manager for the Consulting and Integration organisation of HP, based in Boston; Asia-Pacific Portfolio Manager for the Consulting and Integration organisation of HP, working out of Beijing, Singapore and Melbourne; Consulting Manager and Senior Consultant in Compaq and Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) engaged on assignments throughout Asia and the Pacific covering general management consulting, change management consulting, strategic information systems consulting and planning, and technical business systems consulting.  

He has lectured and tutored at the University of SA and conducted short courses in office automation at the Charles Darwin University (when incorporated as NT University and Darwin Community College).  He has written and delivered a number of articles and papers on the subject of office and business systems, including presentations by invitation at DECUS conferences in New Zealand.  In addition, Allan has delivered papers at SEARCC (Karachi, Pakistan) and the Microsoft Executive Summits (Goa, India and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia).   

His other roles have included: Chairman, National Office Systems Committee of the Australian Computer Society; Chairman, Office Automation Association of SA; Chairman, COMTEC Committee, and Chairman, Board of Studies for the Bachelor of Business Information Systems Program at the University of SA.  He also served as a Trustee/Director of Compaq Superannuation Pty. Limited.  He was a Board Member and Drive presenter on Coast FM in Adelaide, and continues his interest in music and radio in internet radio station, Radio KSA.

COVID-19 Event Attendance Compliance

By registering to attend an ACS in person event you are agreeing to the below terms and conditions

  • If an attendee is displaying flu or cold like symptoms in the days leading up to the event and therefore is not able to attend, ACS will refund the registration fee.
  • If an attendee comes to an event and is displaying flu or cold like symptoms they will be asked to leave
  • We ask all ACS members to respect the social distancing guidelines, if an attendee repeatedly disregards these guidelines, they may be asked to leave
  • ACS reserves the right to cancel the event within 24 hours' notice if either the speaker or the event host has advised us that they are exhibiting flu or cold like symptoms
  • All attendees must provide a valid phone number and email address to be contacted on if there is reason to notify about a possible COVID-19 exposure
