The Introduction to System Safety course is a five-day primer in system safety engineering. The course contains a mix of lectures, discussions and small group exercises, supported by Australian and international examples.  <br>Whilst the course touches on broader issues in theorizing risk and managing safety within organisations, its main focus is to equip safety practitioners with the practical understanding necessary to engage with safety activities.<br><br>The course was developed by the University of York for their MSc of Science Safety Critical Systems Engineering program. The course is jointly hosted by the aSCSa and ANU. (CPD 40 hours)<br><br><b>The course is structured according to the engineering lifecycle of a service or physical system, and covers:</b><br>•    Concepts and terminology for safety<br>•    Overview of the engineering lifecycle from a safety perspective, including the role and intent of key safety activities<br>•    Hazard identification and setting of safety requirements<br>•    Techniques for safety analysis to support design, including: <ul style="margin-left: 80px;"><li>Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA)</li><li>Functional Failure Analysis (FFA</li><li>Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOP)</li><li>Fault Tree Analysis (FTA)</li></ul> •    Safety cases, including notations for recording arguments and evidence<br>•    Specific issues in safety analysis, including, Human Factors, Software and Data Safety.<br><br><b>Presenters:</b><br>The course is a University of York course and will be presented by a Senior Research and Teaching Fellow from University of York and Dr Drew Rae, Program Director of the Graduate Certificate in Safety Leadership at Griffith University. <br><br><b>Parking</b><br>Please refer to the ANU website https://services.anu.edu.au/campus-environment/transport-parking<br><br>There is very limited on-campus parking. COVID-19 Event Attendance Compliance

By registering to attend an ACS in person event you are agreeing to the below terms and conditions

  • If an attendee is displaying flu or cold like symptoms in the days leading up to the event and therefore is not able to attend, ACS will refund the registration fee.
  • If an attendee comes to an event and is displaying flu or cold like symptoms they will be asked to leave
  • We ask all ACS members to respect the social distancing guidelines, if an attendee repeatedly disregards these guidelines, they may be asked to leave
  • ACS reserves the right to cancel the event within 24 hours' notice if either the speaker or the event host has advised us that they are exhibiting flu or cold like symptoms
  • All attendees must provide a valid phone number and email address to be contacted on if there is reason to notify about a possible COVID-19 exposure
