Liz Bacon

Liz Bacon

Professor Liz Bacon BSc, PhD, CEng, CSci, CITP, FBCS, PFHEA, MACM is a Deputy Pro-Vice-Chancellor at the University of Greenwich in London, with a University wide remit leading the development of technology enhanced learning and pedagogic research. She was President of BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, in the year 14-15 and is a past Chair of the BCS Academy of Computing, and the CPHC (Council of Professors and Heads of Computing) national committee.

Liz is a Professor of Software Engineering with over a hundred publications and a Co-Director of the eCentre research group. She has been involved in several EU research projects, including being Principal Investigator and Project Coordinator for two EU FP7 projects in the recent past. She is an experienced systems designer and developer and her research interests include computing policy, smart systems, security and technology enhanced learning (TEL). Within TEL, she has applied her research in software engineering, artificial intelligence and security to a range of application areas such as crisis management and eHealth, focusing on: smart games-based learning environments; metacognition and learning strategies; adaptable, adaptive and personalised systems; and the use of social media in online learning, all supported by cloud technology. She also researches, publishes, and is a regular international speaker, on the supply and demand of e-skills to the IT industry. Liz is passionate about the development of her discipline and keen to inspire more people to choose computing as a career, particularly women.

Anthony Wong

Anthony is the Principal of a multidisciplinary law and consulting firm, AGW Lawyers & Consultants specialising in IT and the Digital Economy.

He held senior management positions in multinational corporations and government, including as CIO of the Australian Tourist Commission during the Sydney 2000 Olympics and led the development of digital publishing for Thomson (now Thomson Reuters) in the Asia Pacific. Anthony is currently President of the ACS.

Mike Hinchey

Mike Hinchey

Mike Hinchey is President of IFIP (International Federation for Information Processing) and Professor of Software Engineering at University of Limerick, Ireland. Until end of 2016, he was Director of Lero-the Irish Software Research Centre, a multi-university research centre with a footprint in each of Ireland’s universities. Previous positions include Director of the Software Verification Research Centre at University of Queensland, and Director of the NASA Software Engineering Laboratory at Goddard Space Flight Center; he has also served as a NASA “Expert”.

Hinchey holds a BSc in Computer Systems from University of Limerick, an MSc in Computation from University of Oxford and PhD in Computer Science from University of Cambridge. He is a Fellow of IET, British Computer Society, Irish Computer Society (of which he is also Vice President), Engineers Ireland and Engineers Australia. He is the author or editor of more than 20 books, including the forthcoming “Software Technology: 10 years of innovation in IEEE Computer” (Wiley), more than 200 papers, and holds 26 patents. He is Editor-in-Chief of Innovations in Systems and Software Engineering: a NASA Journal” (Springer) and Journal of the Brazilian Computer Society (Springer).

Marita Cheng

Marita Cheng is the Founder and CEO of aubot (formerly called 2Mar Robotics), which makes a telepresence robot, Teleport, for kids with cancer in hospital to attend school, people with a disability to attend work and to monitor and socialise with elderly people.

While studying at Singularity University’s flagship 10-week program, Marita cofounded Aipoly. Aipoly allows blind people to recognise objects using computer vision and has been downloaded 350,000 times in 23 languages since its launch at CES 2016.

Marita was named the 2012 Young Australian of the Year for demonstrating vision and leadership well beyond her years as the Founder and Executive Director of Robogals Global.

COVID-19 Event Attendance Compliance

By registering to attend an ACS in person event you are agreeing to the below terms and conditions

  • If an attendee is displaying flu or cold like symptoms in the days leading up to the event and therefore is not able to attend, ACS will refund the registration fee.
  • If an attendee comes to an event and is displaying flu or cold like symptoms they will be asked to leave
  • We ask all ACS members to respect the social distancing guidelines, if an attendee repeatedly disregards these guidelines, they may be asked to leave
  • ACS reserves the right to cancel the event within 24 hours' notice if either the speaker or the event host has advised us that they are exhibiting flu or cold like symptoms
  • All attendees must provide a valid phone number and email address to be contacted on if there is reason to notify about a possible COVID-19 exposure
