Young IT Professionals' Board
It's with pleasure that I welcome you to our new website! Young IT is always proactive, ahead of the time , as well as being quite creative. So, our volunteers have come together to create this new website. I commend all of them on behalf of the Young IT Professionals Board.
With such a successful year in 2009, we have begun the New Year and a new decade with a focus to continue to deliver value to our young members.
2009 saw not just the biggest ever annual Young ICT Conference, but one of the most successful events ACS has ever staged. The success of that event is a tribute to the Board shows the dedication and the talents of young people.
We have started to ensure our events are in the interest of working young professionals as well as students. Numerous events organised around the country have reflected this and we will continue to improve ourselves. I am thankful to State/Territory Young IT Representatives, local committees, student ambassadors and ACS staff for their great contribution in making these events/programs successful for the benefit of our young members. The quality of these events continues to rise and their popularity is increasing proven by the increase in numbers.
To ensure the value of ACS to not only members in the metro areas, we have started to move into some of the regional areas of Australia and are keen to expand this year. If you are in an area which doesn't have an ACS Young IT Chapter and are keen to join hands with us on this initiative, I invite you to contact me or my relevant State representative. Similarly, if you are a student studying ICT, you can be a part of our growing student ambassador program.
I encourage you to consider increasing your level of involvement to make a bigger contribution to your profession, and reap the benefits that come with that. ACS Young IT is a great source of learning and professional networking. We always hear that a significant percentage of jobs and business opportunities are never advertised but are given to those who use their networks positively to stay in touch with people of influence.
Being involved with Young IT also gives you something valuable to add to your resume in terms of experiences which will help you move forward in your career while learning important skills.
I truly believe that ICT professionals are taking the lead in shaping Australia's future. The ACS is the public voice for the ICT profession and the guardian of professional ethics and standards in the Australian ICT industry, becoming more actively involved, you have the opportunity to help shape the future of our industry.
I am constantly amazed by the talented young people who participate in our Young IT committees and events - they are the future leaders of this industry and continue to raise the bar through their efforts.
The fact that most active members have become successful in their career and life is a testament to the level of experience that this community can provide.
I hope to meet you at a future ACS event and wish you the very best for a challenging and rewarding year in 2010!
