Membership of the Society is through one of the Branches of the Society which operate in every State and Territory in Australia, or through the Overseas Group for applicants living overseas or for those who are not permanent residents.

ACS offers the following levels of membership, allowing a progression through the various levels as a member's career develops:

Student, Provisional Associate, Associate, Member and Fellow.

Entry to each of these grades, except that of Fellow which is by election of the Council of the Society, and that of Student, is by satisfying the requirements in relation to a prescribed Core Body of Knowledge and relevant experience.

The grade of membership is assessed by the Membership Processing Centre, located in the ACS National office, Sydney. Once graded, the applicant is admitted to the Branch by the Branch Executive Committee.

  • Membership period is for 12 months from date of payment.
  • Membership fees have changed from 1 July 2003.

For more information about ACS membership, please visit the ACS National website, or call the Victorian Branch Office on 03 9690 8000.

AMEMBERSHIP GRADES

Recognising that professionalism enhances every stage of an ICT practitioner's career, the ACS offers several grades of membership. A clear articulation path enables members to progress through the levels as their career develops.

Student
A student member must be enrolled in full-time or part-time study in a tertiary course which is accredited by the ACS at either professional or associate level.
For a list of accredited courses, please see our National website.

Provisional Associate
Provisional Associates are those who have completed an ICT related course of associate level studies or equivalent, and have less than two years relevant industry experience.

Associate
An Associate will typically have completed a degree level course in an ICT related field of study (or possess the Core Body of Knowledge) but not yet completed four years of relevant industry experience. Those who have completed a course of study in ICT which is accredited by the Society at associate level and have at least two years experience are also eligible to become Associates.

Member
To qualify as a professional Member, you must demonstrate that you possess the Core Body of Knowledge (CBoK) required for an ICT professional, and have at least four years of relevant industry experience. The CBoK either requires the completion of a degree level course in an ICT related discipline or the possession of an equivalent CBoK as assessed by the ACS Membership Board.

Fellow
Fellowships are awarded by the ACS Council to individuals who have made a distinguished long term contribution to the ICT industry in Australia and or internationally.
