Compliance

As a Certified Computer Professional, it is important to understand your compliance obligations.

In order to be protected under the ACS scheme, you must:

  1. Remain a financial member of the Australian Computer Society (ACS), and
  2. Maintain your CP status in order to keep your Certified Computer Professional status current

  3. Hold a current Professional Indemnity Insurance policy, and
  4. Promote your membership in the scheme and its requirements on your business stationery.

If you do not meet all of these conditions the protection provided through the scheme may not apply.

Please be aware that your Certified Computer Professional status expires on the 31st of December each year.

1. Remain a financial member of the Australian Computer Society (ACS)

To retain your Certified Computer Professional special category of membership, which is the precursor for membership in the scheme, you must renew your membership prior to its expiry date.

You will receive an invoice for your membership (usually three weeks in advance of the expiry). In order to minimise the risk of your membership lapsing, the ACS suggests that you use your credit card for an automatic annual renewal. If you pay your membership monthly or quarterly, each payment will need to be processed. So if your credit card is lost, stolen or has expired, please ensure you have updated your payment details.

2. Maintain your CP status in order to keep your Certified Computer Professional status current

Your Certified Computer Professional status will only remain current if you maintain your CP status.

In order to do this, you must undertake and record in the members section of the ACS website no less than 90 hours of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) over a period of three years, with a minimum of 20 hours each year.

3. Hold a current Professional Indemnity Insurance policy

In order to apply and be accepted under the scheme you are required to maintain the currency of a Professional Indemnity Insurance policy which meets the requirements of the Scheme.

Read the full list of insurance guidelines on the Insurance for Certified Computer Professionals page.

If you require a quote for a compliant policy or simply need advice as to whether your existing policy already complies, you can contact Member Advantage Insurance & Superannuation Services at info@abcountrywide.com.au or on phone 1300 365 152.

4. Promote your membership in the scheme and its requirements on business stationery

You must promote your membership in the scheme on your business stationery. Promotion of scheme membership is in the form of a disclosure statement, which is:

"Liability limited by a scheme approved under Professional Standards Legislation".
