Project - Wednesday 29th OctoberTopic: What do Australians do
online? The internet is everywhere, at work, at
home, and on the move. If Kevin Rudd's plans come to anything, it will soon be
in every school. The underlying technologies are scarcely three decades old, and
some of the most popular sites, such as You Tube and Facebook, are only a few
years old, but this new world of information and communcation is now, for many
of us, an utterly everyday experience. Speaker: Scott Ewing

7. Topic of the Week - ACS
Women Members Survey on challenges Women face in ICT
What Women Want: Better pay, better opportunities, more recognition, flexibility and
training
The ACS Women Members Survey revealed that women in the ICT sector
still feel undervalued, have fewer careers opportunities compared to men, and
feel the need to achieve better work life balance. Although 70% of women
believed they received equivalent pay to their male counterparts, the remainder
felt this was not the case, and many more respondents felt they did not get the
same recognition or promotion opportunities as their male
colleagues.
Some of the key recommendations of the survey include the
need for:
· Greater focus on providing affordable training in a variety of
formats and times
· Mentorship programs from successful women in
ICT
· Advocacy and lobbying for equal status and work life balance for
women
· New networking opportunities specifically designed for
women
· Advertising for flexible part-time work
· Developing partnerships between the ACS and industry to help
further women’s careers
