7. E-Government’s Role In Our Global Future
Wednesday 21st May 2008 – ACS CEO, Kim Denham welcomed the
recently announced Gershon Review of the way the Federal Government manages its
$10 billion in ICT assets and its $6 billion procurement and urged the
Government not to see the Review more than simply a cost-cutting exercise and to
explore the economic benefits associated with developing and applying different
ICT innovations, both for the government and the wider community when she
delivered her speech on e-Government’s role in our global future at the
e-Government Forum at CeBIT.
She said that, “Australia consistently
enjoys a solid Top 10 position on the international e-government rankings and
the ACS wants to acknowledge that. There are other issues such as strategy,
education, procurement, broadband, local government, privacy and security,
professionalism, skills shortage, certification and licensing and many more that
we need to address. The ACS is enormously proud of the quality work the
Australian Government has done in achieving a high standard of e-Government
readiness. Many of our members are involved in key government projects and
making a real contribution to this work.
“To maintain and extend our
position, we must continue to innovate and transform government services and the
way in which they are delivered. This requires ongoing consultation, innovation,
integration and above all, a duty of care to ensure that the citizens of
Australia have easy and equitable access to the best e-government services in
the world. The ACS offers our on-going support and expertise to assist in any
way we can.”
Details of the speech can be downloaded at http://www.acs.org.au/attachments/e-Government.doc and
presentation slides at http://www.acs.org.au/attachments/e-Government.ppt.
8. Computer Professional Education (CPE) Program
New
elective – Adaptive Business Intelligence
The Computer Professional
Education Program is reviewed each study period to ensure the course content
remains current and relevant. As part of
the program’s continual renewal, a new elective has been developed on Adaptive
Business Intelligence. The subject is
based on a new book written by Zbigniew Michalewicz et al. The approach teaches
students how to combine prediction and optimisation techniques to assist
decision makers in complex, rapidly changing environments. It uses elements of data mining, predictive
modeling, forecasting, optimisaton and adaptability to address the fundamental
questions “what is likely to happen in the future” and “what’s the best decision
right now”. Students will complete the
subject with a sound understanding of the principles of Artificial Intelligence
(AI), and how and when to apply AI techniques to real business problems. Further details on the CPE Program and the new
elective subject Adaptive Business Intelligence can be found at www.acs.org.au/cpeprogram Enrolments are
now being taken for study period 2 which runs from 20 July to 18 October. Time
commitment is 8-10 hours per week. Cost is only $675 per subject for ACS
Members. Enrol now - charges will not be made until early July.
Enrolments for Study Period 2 (July - October) are now
being taken. For more information and to enrol, visit
