1. Vale Emeritus Professor Robert S. Northcote (Bob)
The ACS SA Branch wishes to advise members
of the passing of Past Branch Chairman Emeritus Professor Robert S Northcote
FACS HLM MSc PhD (Bob). In addition to being Branch Chairman in 1976, Bob was
also Immediate Past Chairman 1977, BEC Member 1980 -1981 and National President
1976 -1977.
Bob was the youngest ever President of the
Australian Computer Society and will be remembered by many members for his
outstanding service to the Society and dedication to the professionalism of the
ICT Industry through his establishment of formal Membership Standards, the
accreditation of computing and information technology courses throughout
Australia and for his diligent processing of Member Applications with his “trusty
red pen”. Bob continued to be a strong supporter to ACS as a Fellow and
Honorary Life Member, serving when called on various committees throughout his 36
years of membership
Branch Chairman, Emeritus Professor Reg
Coutts, on behalf of all members, wishes to extend sympathy to Margaret and
members of Bob’s family.
As per the Adelaide Advertiser (pg
94)Thursday 20th March 2008, there will be a Service of Celebration
and Thanksgiving for his life which will be held in its entirety in the
Bonython Hall, North Terrace, Adelaide
on Wednesday 2nd April 2008, at 1pm.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a
donation to one of Bob’s special Rotary Charities. Envelopes will be available
at the Service.
