ACS stalwart, Jim Ellis, has been honoured with the Medal of the Order of Australia in the 2008 Queens Birthday Awards for his services to the ICT sector. A Fellow and Honorary Life Member of the Australian Computer Society, Mr Ellis is also the current Chair of WA Chapter of the ACS Foundation and a Director on its national Board.  He is a former Chair of the ACS Western Australian Branch, and was responsible for initiating WA’s first awards program for high achievers in ICT, which he later expanded beyond the ACS to become the Western Australian Information Technology and Telecommunications Awards (WAITTA), now the premier ICT awards in the state. “This is a great honour,” said a delighted Jim Ellis. “I’ve had an exciting career in ICT, working at the leading edge of change, and it’s an unexpected privilege to be recognised in this way. I hope this provides an incentive for other people in the ICT industry to put their back into it and do what needs to be done to grow the profession and the industry,” he said.
