4. October Computer Human Interface (CHI) Meeting - Tuesday 28th October Topic: 'New Jobs for Thinking
Heads' The Thinking Head, in the persona of Performance Artist Stelarc, has been
gaining attention around the world, including at the Beijing Arts Festival in
the lead in to the Olympics. However we are grooming the Head for a number of
other roles and persona, including as a Teaching Head in a hybrid real/virtual
environment, with initial applications focusing on teaching English and German
as a foreign language.

in every school. The underlying technologies are scarcely three decades old, and

7. Topic of the Week - ACS Remuneration Survey
4.9% salary
increase overall, 5.1% for private sector The annual survey of
ACS members revealed that the salaries of ICT professionals have steadily
increased over the twelve months to May 2008. The salaries growth is underpinned
by an overall solid ICT sector performance across the five year period since
2003. Remuneration paid to ICT professionals across the twelve month period rose
by 4.9%, slightly above the previous year’s increase of 4.5%. The 2008
Australian Computer Society Remuneration Survey1 recorded a 5.1% increase for
those employed in the private sector, this is up half a percentage point from
2007 salary results, while the public sector remuneration remained strong with
an increase of 4.1%, education sector employees reported an average increase of
