1. IT in the Pub - Monday 10th November

Topic: Visit to the Traffic Control Centre, Norwood

IT in the Pub for November is our final gathering for the year and it's the long awaited visit to the Traffic Control Centre, Norwood. This tour will take up to 2 hours from 6-8pm and following it, we will be crossing The Parade to the Colonist Tavern for a drink and nibbles to wind up the IT in the Pub year for 2008.

2. Young IT in the Pub - Wednesday 12th November

Topic: 
This month's Young IT in the Pub will focus on the world of open source software.
Open source software and applications are normally preferred not only because they come with free use and distribution license but also because of the availability of its source code. You can modify the program as per your wish. As usual, free finger food and drinks will be provided :)

3. SouthAustralia.NET Launch - Wednesday 12th November 

AIIA together with Microsoft and the Government of South Australia is pleased to announce the launch of South Australia.NET (SA.NET) Industry Development Cluster.  SA.NET is primarily designed to bring together local ICT organisations and promote South Australia as a world class location for software development. 

Join Brian Cunningham, Chief Executive, Department of Trade and Economic Development, and your ICT industry colleagues to hear about SA.NET objectives and the benefits of membership.  Guest speaker Peter Watson, Director - Software + Services, Microsoft Australia, will give you a taste of the next wave from Microsoft  and the exciting future ahead.  Network with representatives of other like-minded SA companies using Microsoft technologies and identify skills and synergies, share knowledge and pool resources.

8. Topic of the Week - ACS Honours Fallen Fellows

The ACS paid tribute to Dr Gerry Maynard and Warren Hosey, two highly-respected and long-serving members who died this week after losing battles with cancer. Eighty-two year old Gerry Maynard AM, an ACS Fellow and Honorary Life Member from Melbourne, passed away on Tuesday 4 November while 64 year old Warren Hosey of Sydney, also an ACS Fellow, died on Monday 3 November.
“We are deeply saddened to have lost two such committed and influential members who contributed so much to their industry, and to the life and work of the ACS itself,” said ACS Chief Executive, Kim Denham. “Gerry and Warren were both industry pioneers who played highly significant roles in Australia’s academic sector. They will be greatly missed,” she said. 

Dr Gerry Maynard's funeral will be held on Tuesday 11 November at 2.30pm at the Uniting Church Glen Waverly. Warren Hosey's funeral was held today, Friday 7 November at 1.30pm at the Woronora Crematorium in Sutherland.

9. Embedded Digital Production Survey 2008

The m.Net Corporation has been commissioned by the South Australian Department of the Premier and Cabinet to conduct a national research project designed to develop an in-depth understanding of Australia’s embedded digital production industry. They have approached the ACS as the peak Industry body representing ICT professionals to provide our members the opportunity to participate in the Embedded Digital Production Survey 2008

If you or your company are involved in the creation of embedded digital products, please complete this short survey about your activities in this area. The survey should take around 10 minutes to complete.
