Some ideas about the next generation of image manipulation tools'  The massive uptake of digital cameras and advances in the science of image analysis are delivering new tools for digital content creation into the hands of the average user. This development is fueled by the growth of image and video content on the internet and the ability of the technology to process very large volumes of image-based information. The tools range from intelligent image and video editing programs to modelling packages for 3D virtual environments such as Google Earth, Grand Theft Auto, and Second Life. Digital content creation technologies are becoming more powerful and more accessible than ever.

9. Invitation - Free Seminar - Graduate Expectations, Perceptions and Views

What are the expectations, perceptions and views of university graduates about their transitions from education to work?

For the first time a systematic national survey of over 30,000 graduating Australian students has been conducted to build a broad understanding of the opinions of graduate students post university
  • employment expectations, including:
  • the expected salary,
  • the value of various benefits being offered by employers,
  • what aspects of ‘corporate culture’ are important,
  • methods of seeking work,
  • expectations of working life
This innovative new survey, known as University and Beyond, was undertaken by Graduate Careers Australia (GCA) (with funding from the then Department of Education, Science and Training). The GCA is a not-for-profit organisation that tracks the activities of new university graduates, reporting annually on their employment destinations and starting salaries.

Expectations, perceptions and views - Key Findings from the University and Beyond Survey. 5.30-7.30pm, Monday September 8, 2008Bradley Forum, UniSA, Level 5, 50-60 North Terrace

11. Topic of the Week - ACS makes submission to the Review of the Future of Higher Education in Australia

The ACS makes submission to the Government's Review of the Future of Higher Education in Australia and recommends that Government, industry, VET and higher education providers must develop a coordinated and ongoing action plan to address the ongoing decrease in enrolments in ICT programs and the subsequent growing gap between supply and demand in Australia’s essential ICT skills. Australian post school education should be revamped to achieve greater collaboration and articulation between education programs provided by the VET and the higher education sector to develop a post school education system that essentially exists on an interoperable continuum, rather than the two very separate and largely incompatible systems that currently exist.  Details at http://www.acs.org.au/attachments/ACSSubmissiontoHigherEducationReview.pdf
