6. Positions Vacant - Skills Assessors
Changes
to ACS membership requirements, especially the Certified Computer
Professional Status (PCP), necessitates the appointment of staff to
undertake the assessment of applicants for CP status and/or skills
assessment for immigration purposes. We are particularly interested in
those who see themselves leading such a team of assessors. The ideal
person is one who has a broad understanding of the profession and
industry in Australia (or a thorough understanding of a particular
segment) as well an understanding of ICT education in Australia,
especially of those institutions preparing students for entry to the
profession.
Key selection criteria are:
- Relevant
tertiary qualifications and experience in an education or skills
assessment capacity (or other human resource selection
processes)
- A keen interest in the development of ICT professionalism, and appropriate and relevant benchmarks and standards
- Well
developed analytical, conceptual and problem solving skills with the
ability to undertake work under broad direction and make sound
decisions about individuals based sometimes on judgment
- The knowledge to know when to seek advice and consult
- A commitment to quality assurance and customer service
- The commercial acumen required to operate within a (not for profit) business unit
- Well developed communication, interpersonal, consultation and interviewing skills
The
team leader will also need to demonstrate leadership skills, an
understanding of business processes across a number of dimensions, with
proven ability to learn and implement new concepts quickly (ensuring
the ability of staff and processes are in place), project and time
management including the ability to establish, monitor and meet
deadlines and targets as well as Commitment to and experience in
continuous improvement of processes. Expressions of Interest and
questions can be directed to the General Manager: Professional
Standards, Accreditation and Certifications (+614 1472 5270) or bob.hart@acs.org.au
7. PCP HOURS - Have you updated yours lately?
To achieve Practicing Computer Professional status (PCP post-nominals) a
member must undertake a minimum of thirty (30) hours structured professional
development in any twelve month period. If
you book for ACS sponsored events such as Branch Forums, EdXN and
Special Interest Groups your PCP hours will be automatically updated.
The number of applicable hours is usually advertised with the event
information. Non ACS events, such as conferences and other
training may also count towards your PCP hours but you will have to
update your Member record by logging in to 'My ACS' and completing the CP Activity Statement.
The Statement requires details of each activity, including the objectives and
outcomes of each activity, dates and times, location, the provider details (if
any) and the number of hours claimed.
The maximum number of hours that can be claimed for any one activity is
twenty-five (25) hours.
Each activity can be entered as it occurs or all information can be added at
one time. A member's professional development history is kept as an addendum to
the member's record and (in a future release of the web interface) can be
printed by the member as and when required. Following each and every update the
member's PCP status is re-evaluated. Why not check yourmembership record today?
8. Did you know that the ACS can notify you directly about events that you are
interested in?
If you have particular ICT interests such as
SQA or Architecture or Green IT etc just to name a few, then update
your special interests in your member’s only section so we can email you
any special events that pertain to those interests. To find this page simply log
on to the ACS website, then go to “My ACS” at the top right hand side of the
web page, select “My Membership” from the drop down list and select “My Survey
Details” in the left hand column. Then select your particular interests from
each drop down list. 9. Express Training Connections - Special Discounts for ACS Members
