Instructor Biographies

Bhuvan Unhelkar FACS
Be, MDBA, MSc, PhD

Bhuvan Unhelkar is the tutor for the New Technology Alignment subject and a member of the Faculty Board. Bhuvan has more than two decades of strategic as well as hands-on professional experience in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) industry. As a Founder of MethodScience.com, Bhuvan has demonstrated consulting and training expertise in business analysis (use cases, BPMN) software engineering (object modelling, Agile processes and quality), collaborative web services, Green IT (environment) and mobile business. His domain experience includes banking, financial, insurance, government as well as telecommunication organisations. Bhuvan earned his Doctorate in the area of 'object orientation' from the University of Technology, Sydney, in 1997. Since then, he has authored/edited 15 books in the areas of collaborative business, globalisation, mobile business, software quality, business analysis/processes, the UML and Green ICT, and has extensively presented and published papers and case studies. He is an adjunct Associate Professor at University of Western Sydney and is currently authoring (with Taylor and Francis, 2010/11) The Art of Practicing Agile: Applying Composite Agile Method and Strategy to Real Projects and Green IT: Strategies and Applications. Bhuvan is a sought-after orator, as well as being a Life member of Computer Society of India, Rotarian at St.Ives (Paul Harris Fellow), Discovery volunteer at NSW parks and wildlife, and a previous TiE Mentor.


Phil Ingerson MACS Snr
BSc, GAICD

Phil Ingerson has more than 35 years’ experience in the IT industry with 30 of those years as an IT Consultant working across both the private and public sectors for mostly large corporate and government agencies. His main areas of expertise include IT strategic planning, IT governance, project directorship and management and, development of business cases. Phil has worked for multi-national consulting firms as well his own one person firm and in 1993 founded Intec Group which has grown to be the largest privately owned IT consulting firm based in South Australia providing services for clients throughout Australia. He has also developed and presented training courses in his areas of expertise and in consultancy skills throughout Australia and in Asia. He retired as Managing Director of Intec last year and is the tutor for the Consultancy elective.


Mark Toomey BEc

Mark Toomey is recognised internationally as a leading expert in top level governance of information technology, having been deeply involved in the development of the International Standard, ISO/IEC 38500, and its predecessor, Australian Standard AS8015.  His involvement in standards is based on many years of hands-on experience, including several major reviews of IT Governance in diverse organisations from 2000 to the present.  He is a past chair of the committee responsible for Australian standards on governance and management of IT, was Australia’s lead representative to the corresponding international committee.  In August 2012, his work was recognised with the Australian IT Industry’s highest award – ICT Professional of the Year.

He continues his quest to improve performance of IT use in all sectors of the international economy by voluntary contribution to international standards development, educating business and technology leaders and conducting assessments of and finding ways to improve governance of IT in specific situations.   Mark regularly delivers education and advice on the domestic and international markets, with his recent international experience embracing The United Kingdom, Ireland, Spain, The Netherlands, Germany, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Argentina, El Salvador and Mexico.    He has conducted programs to assess and improve governance of IT for diverse listed and unlisted major companies in finance, insurance, manufacturing, distribution and retail industries as well as in tertiary education and local and federal government.

Mark’s publications include the acclaimed “Waltzing with the Elephant – a comprehensive guide to directing and controlling Information Technology” and “The Director’s IT Compass”.    He publishes “The Infonomics Letter” on a monthly basis, and has penned numerous papers on Governance of IT and IT failures.  He is a compelling and forthright speaker who regularly addresses diverse audiences on topics linked to the need for profound improvement in top level governance of IT.  His company, Infonomics, specialises in helping corporate leaders understand and improve their organization’s governance of IT, and expanding the knowledge and capabilities of consultants who offer their clients advice about governance of IT.

Mark commenced his IT consulting career in 1977, and has focused on governance of IT since 2000.  Mark is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, a Senior Member of the Australian Computer Society.
