Dr Williamson has worked in numerous areas of sectoral industry policy in DIST and its predecessor Industry Departments since 1975. They have included the chemicals, processed food, pharmaceuticals, housing and construction and steel industries. He has also dealt with broader policy issues in the industry development context, such as science and technology, education, industrial relations, government purchasing and Commonwealth/State relations. Dr Williamson joined the Australian Public Service after several years of postdoctoral research in chemistry. He undertook a two year exchange with the Federal Industry Department in Canada during 1994 and 1995.
