This forum discusses how the modern departmental manager work within the rapid pace of change with the Internet to fulfil the requirements of effective government. The how, when and where of delivering government services in cyberspace is looked at , as well challenges for government departments and agencies. The chair will introduce the speakers and issues for the conference session, by way of an on-line, open source information search conducted via the Internet.
Mr Worthington is Special Adviser for Internet/Intranet Policy, with the Australian Department of
Defence and Immediate Past President of the Australian Computer Society. Information Age magazine lists Mr. Worthington as one of the 10 most influential IT&T people in Australia in 1998. His work since 1994 has been on the policy and practice of implementation of the Internet, including appearances before three Senate hearings. He established the first web home pages for the ACT Government, the Special Broadcasting Service, Australian Information
Industry Association and the National Press Club.

As co-chair my main job is to make sure the speakers, and the audience, keep to the timetable and to the topic. However, to put this event in context, let me put some questions for you to keep in mind today:
Hopefully our speakers will clarify those questions, if not actually answer them. ;-)
But first to see how electronic today's speakers really are; my first step (as is now routine in my daily work) is to do a open source information (ADFA, 1998) search on-line. Here are some of the items I found on-line with a few minutes searching, blended with the information they supplied.

Brian's research and consulting background, embracing interactive multimedia, education and training, contributes to his informed understanding of the relationship between the content and the technology of electronic delivery services. His experience and expertise embraces business planning, organisational development, training design and delivery, presentation skills, program planning, policy analysis, research methodology, and technical writing.
Following a university career of some 17 years, Brian established his own consultancy (Haines & Associates), in 1989, focusing on information research, training design, and technical writing, working with organisations such as the Department of Training, Public Service Commission, Public Sector Development, State Supply Commission, TAFE Colleges and AlintaGas.
In 1995 he co-founded Dow Digital, which has rapidly emerged as a leading strategic planning and development group in the area of Internet technology. As Dow Digital's Co-Director and Senior Consultant, Brian has designed and managed over 40 Internet-related projects, including the 'Naturebase' web site - winner of several national and international awards.
Brian holds a Master of Science (Organisation & Management) from the University of Oxford, and a Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Arts (Hons) from the University of Western Australia. He is a Member of the Institute of Management Consultants (Australia), the Australian Institute of Management and the Australian Institute of Training and Development; a graduate of the Excellerated Learning Institute (USA) and a committee member of the Alumni of the National Enterprise Workshop (WA) Inc.
Owen works with the Australian Multimedia Testing Centre and is responsible for Business Development.
Owen has nearly 20 years experience in Information Technology. He has managed large scale electronic banking and clearing systems projects in Australia and the United Kingdom. He has been involved in Quality Assurance and User Acceptance program development for more than a decade.
Craig works with the Australian Multimedia Testing Centre as a usability consultant. He holds a Masters degree in Industrial and Organisational Psychology from the University of New South Wales. He is a registered psychologist in New South Wales.
Craig has been involved in most facets of the development of technology, from scoping software, writing code, evaluating usability, and the implementation of support systems for enhanced performance.
His approach takes a more commercial view of usability, regarding it as an extension of business development and marketing strategy. His major area of expertise is in the integration of people and technology, drawing on his background in human resources consulting and the design of people-oriented technology.
Is currently the Project Director for Propagate Pty Ltd Propagate is about developing frameworks for the efficient, fair and effective electronic trading of intellectual property.
Peter has been involved with the development of the Australian Multimedia Industry since the early 90s when he co-founded Pacific Advanced Media, a successful enhanced CD, Internet and IMM production company.
Peter is currently on secondment to Propagate Pty Ltd from Access CMC where he has been responsible for the establishment of the Australian Multimedia Testing Centre in 1996 and the launch in 1997 of the Australian Schools Web. He has been an active member of AIMIA since 1993 and is currently Vice President of the NSW Chapter and on the National Board.
Peter was Apple Computer Australia's Third Party Marketing Manager for six years and was a co-founder of Xpand Limited, a UK, USA and Australian multimedia development company. He gained extensive experience in financial and service marketing prior to joining Apple, holding senior marketing management positions at Bank America, American Express and GIO Australia.
