| Mission
The Green IT Special Interest Group (SIG) is a collaboration between a national taskforce and state-based SIGs dedicated to bringing about awareness, knowledge and adoption of environmentally sustainable practices, policies and technologies in the IT industry and supported by ACS and AIIA.
Objectives
Each state will develop their own SIG to meet state-specific objectives and contribute to the national agenda. Within the scope of ‘awareness, knowledge and adoption’, we propose to cover areas such as:
- Understanding government legislation
- Understanding likely business impacts
- Building a general awareness
- Helping businesses develop an action plan to audit their IT environments and to help them to
understand and reduce their environmental impact
- Increase awareness of IT contributes to and impacts the environment
- How IT can be leveraged to contribute to environmental sustainability
The key NSW objective is to align these major goals to the state of New South Wales and the intricacies (e.g. legislation, businesses, standards) within this state.
Expected Outcomes
We differ slightly from other ACS SIGs as we aim to contribute to the wider national Green IT agenda through:-
- Development of specific content i.e. best practices, standards and policies, case studies and green
papers
- Contributing to NSW and national research on Green IT;
- Lobbying government and collaborating with industry;
- Empowering Green IT champions;
- Helping the industry develop innovation showcases on Green IT;
- Conducting & contributing to NSW workshops, seminars and forums.
This will be achieved through a structure of volunteers based in NSW who will own the development and implementation of the NSW Green IT SIG’s objectives, and will be lead by a State Convener nominated by the National Lead. Our overall outcomes will contribute to the national agenda and we aim to collaborate with the other ACS Green IT SIGs in each state to achieve this.
