"Australian IT professionals not only have the opportunity to present academic papers, but should also consider the commercial opportunities presented by this significant conference. The Computer Society of India is a fellow member with the ACS in the South East Asia Regional Computer Confederation (SEARCC)."
The call follows a request by Prof. L M Patnaik, Program Chairman for CSI-96, for the ACS to involve the Australian IT community in this regional event.
Mr Worthington also announced the ACS had published details of SEARCC on the Internet, as part of initiatives to increase regional cooperation on information technology. The Society will be hosting the major regional IT conference in 1998: SEARCC98 in Darwin. Invitations to the Australian IT community to participate in this event will be issued shortly.
"Much has been made in the press recently of the need for regional dialogue by Government and industry. The ACS has thirty years of experience in practical, regular contact with the IT community of South-East Asia. Our 16,000 members in Government agencies, industry and academia have access to the various regional contacts and can use these to promote Australian involvement in our region," he said.
In September this year, the ACS will host IFIP96: the 14th World Computer Congress and Exhibition in Canberra. Calls for papers for this global event have closed and delegate registrations for attendance at the congress are now open.
Exhibition space for Australian and overseas companies wishing to participate is still available.
