ACS Names New Fellows
Friday 13th September 1996 - The Australian Computer Society has named six members to the Grade of Fellow.
A recent meeting of the ACS Council named Michael William Hilsden, Peter Gordon Hocking, Ann Stafford Moffatt, Margaret Lyn Morehen, Neville Joseph Roach and Terence Leslie Woodings as its newest Fellows in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the Australian IT industry.
"I am delighted to welcome these members into the elevated grade of Fellow," said ACS President, Tom Worthington.
"Each of them has worked tirelessly over many years in support of the Society and, more importantly, in developing the industry sector in which they operate. The importance of their contributions to the Australian IT industry cannot be overstated."
Michael William Hilsden has been involved in the IT and telecommunications industries since 1969, working with companies like British Telecom and Stanilite both in Australia and overseas.
Peter Gordon Hocking has been an ACS member since 1963 and very active in the IT banking sector. Over several years with IBM, he has made a distinguished contribution to his field is positions such as Data Centre Manager, Manager of IBM's Indian operations and Project Manager, Professional Resources Management.
Ann Stafford Moffatt has played a prominent role in Australian IT since the late 1950s, especially in promoting IT as a career for women. Her career spans a broad mix of consulting, industrial and technical assignments and professional activities and she is highly regarded as a presenter and writer.
Margaret Lyn Morehen has been active in the financial IT sector for nearly 20 years, working to encourage the effective application of technology in financial institutions. A member of the ACS for the past 24 years, she has been highly effective in bridging the technology/user gap, using user groups to develop more educated users and ensure that software development meets the requirements of the people who will use it.
Neville Joseph Roach has had a long and distinguished career in information technology, serving on such strategic groups as the Board of AIIA, the Prime Minister's Science Council and the NSW Information Industry Advisory Board. He has been a prominent adviser at all levels of government, even representing Australia in the international arena, where he has been a strong advocate for the development of Australian -owned companies.
Terence Leslie Woodings has made a significant contribution to the Australian IT industry, particularly through his pioneering work in the application of software quality management. He has been a key participant in a wide variety of strategic projects and has always been a strong supporter of professionalism and ethics for computer and IT professionals.
