ACS Seeks Nominations for ACJ Editors
Saturday 19 June 1999 - The Australian Computer Society (ACS) seeks nominations from senior IT&T professionals to fill various Editorial positions for its professional journal, the Australian Computer Journal (ACJ). Several honorary positions are available, including Editor, Associate Editors (4) and Editorial Committee (up to 7).
The Society's quarterly professional journal, ACJ publishes technical articles and new research, complementing the ACS' general interest magazine, Information Age.
ACS Publications Board Director, Tom Worthington, said the Society is looking for a new editorial team as part of a push to revitalise the professional journal.
"Our key thrust is to maintain a sound, rigorous academic journal, but make it more attractive to IT practitioners by clearly demonstrating relevance of research to practice. There is also a need to revise the production process to take advantage of the on-line revolution, while respecting the traditions of an academic journal of record and the needs of ACJ's broad readership," he said.
Mr Worthington paid tribute to ACS's current Editor in Chief, David Wilson, (University of Technology Sydney) who has held the position for several years and will stay on until the new team can be constituted.
The Editorial positions are honorary and unpaid, but would provide opportunities for academics, researchers and practitioners to influence their discipline. Membership is not limited to ACS members or Australian residents, since most work will be undertaken electronically, with a minimal formal meetings.
The ACS provides budget to cover printing and production costs, plus a small amount for incidental expenses, as well as extensive infrastructure through national and state offices with full time staff, Web and Internet email servers and international affiliations with sister societies.
Additional details regarding the Editorial positions can be found: http://www.acs.org.au/national/papers/acjadvert.htm
Applications for the positions close on Wednesday 30 June. Applications,
including a CV, should be sent to ACS Membership Services Enquiries can be directed to Publications Board Director, Tom Worthington
