ACS Reappoints Dennis Furini as Chief Executive
Friday 18 July 2003 - The Australian Computer Society (ACS) has announced the re-appointment of Dennis Furini as Chief Executive for a further five year term.
Mr Furini, who has served as ACS CEO for the past three and a half years, yesterday signed a new contract with the Society.
ACS President Richard Hogg said that the Society had been happy with Mr Furini's performance as Chief Executive, and it was important that the ACS had the best executive leadership into the future.
"The ACS, along with the ICT industry, is facing a challenging future that will require drive, innovative leadership and focus," he said.
"With the support of the strong operations team he has built over the past few years, Dennis is well able to lead the Society through this period, and further build on the accomplishments of the recent past. He has the support of the ACS Council and Management Committee in this critical, strategic role," said Mr Hogg.
An ICT professional and senior manager of many years experience, Mr Furini said he was enjoying the challenges of driving the ACS forward in the face of the testing times currently facing the industry.
"The ACS is an active advocate of the ICT sector with a strong focus on professional standards and identifying and implementing measures to grow Australian industry," he said.
"In addition to our on-going efforts to promote and develop the ICT industry, the ACS is currently engaged in a major initiative to re-engineer itself in order to operate more efficiently and enhance our ability to deliver relevant services to members."
Mr Furini's reappointment was welcomed by the Minister for Communications, Information Technology and the Arts, Senator Richard Alston.
"He is highly experienced and has a good record of working with the Government to produce constructive outcomes that benefit the ICT sector, particularly in the areas of skills and education," Senator Alston said.
Mr Furini is preparing to enjoy eight weeks visiting his son and family in the UK before beginning his new term of office.
